Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

Mahonri so sorry you lost one of your chicks to a hawk.

I never did get around to taking pictures last weekend. Had to fix the hotwire before the horses got loose. Here are my chicks at almost a month old.

Doing pretty good over here...

I am doing the Easter Hatch - in fact I've already ordered eggs (LOL) - an assortment of 18 from Muggsmagee. I was saddened to find out my Trader Joe's doesn't sell fertile eggs but I already don't have room for the chicks from the NYD hatch (and the broody a week later) so I guess that's good news. I'm debating getting some eggs from bargain...

I'm also trying to plan a visit to Phoenix to see my godmother - and I have to plan it before it gets too hot and not to interfere with hatching!

I have heard that Nancy's birds are just beautiful, I think you should go for it! (enabling vibes your way!

) I have lined up some eggs from Crystal Creek for the hatch. I am thinking of doing some turkey eggs for St. Patty's Day since DH made the mistake of saying we should do a hatch for his birthday. He now claims he didn't say it but I know what I heard!

And BTW have you thought about Feb for Phoenix before it gets hot??!!

I was just on Nancy's website looking at her egg offerings. I'm still on the fence. I do NOT want to build another coop. And I don't think my speckled sussex, Hoppy (she's my favorite and I'm her favorite), would appreciate me bringing some of them home... and if I order from Nancy I HAVE to get speckled sussex.

I was contemplating 3 duck eggs for this hatch but I'm worried about the mess ducks make with their water. I'm almost certain I'm not going to go the duck route, but the fact that they love slugs (supposedly) is the only thing that brings my thoughts back to them. And they're pretty. I've also contemplated adding a few turkeys but what the heck am I going to do with a turkey?

I'm even sure NOW in Phoenix is going to be too hot for me. The other day it hit 27 here and I couldn't even wear my jacket.

No nice way to put it so...my baby died. And yes, I am okay. I am miserable, I cry for no reason, and feel lethargic and can't figure out what to do with myself but all of that seems like a natural part of the process of healing. I have three wonderful adult daughters, and two crazy little boys that are keeping me busy and focused on living so really - I am okay, and the part of me that is not okay will be okay again one of these days. Sorry to just blurt it out but again, I can't think of any gentle way to say it. Thank you everyone for asking.
