If that's an option, then yep, that should work. As long as he has some lady duck friends living there, it should be a good situation for him.

I agree with what others have said. Just sending one male duck to live with chickens won't work, but if you can give your friend a few lady ducks too and they are free range (so have lots of space) I think they will do ok. I also would recommend your friend keep at least two waterers and two feed stations. Ducks have a way of monopolizing the watering hole and pretty much the only times mine fight with the chickens it has to do with the water.
