Well that what I got told when I brought it at 8 weeks

I'm in Australia.
I'm guessing it's cross with an Easter Eggers.

I'd bet he's a project Olive Egger. Likely half Australian Araucana, half Black Copper Marans (from a line without feathered legs).

With a comb that red already, you know it's a cockerel.

Male specific feathering doesn't begin to develop until about 10 weeks of age, and can take several more weeks to be really visible.
Pullets don't start to pink up in the comb till they are nearly ready to lay eggs.
