Malpositioned/shrink wrapped duckling?! HELP!

I didn't mean that it was your intention. I should not have said "we".... I meant myself. I don't want to scare her. There are several ways this could go.

But I gotta get to work anyway. Hopefully she comes back, and you can help her out!
I'm not sitting here either I have appointments this morning...:idunno
I hope everything works out.

UPDATE:
We lost him...
I could no longer see movement so I went ahead and carefully peeled the shell away, and stripped the white membrane which was yellow/golden almost burnt on the small end... the clear membrane felt really tough to me also... but we noticed he was malpositioned and that there was a green substance in the egg with him, along with a lot of brown oozy substance...
something wasn’t right.
I’m so sad... I try not to get attatched but that was my first and that was hard.

There are 5 more in the incubator, two that are his same age but they seem to be a lot bigger...
I will post updates.

Hey y’all!!

I’m new to this forum and new to hatching ducklings. We have had ducks for a year now and these are our first babies... I have read many threads here on what to do... we are currently on day 30 and I’m a little worried...
I feel like this little Guy is malpisitioned and possibly shrink wrapped... but his veins are massive at this end and I don’t know what to do.
I have kept him moist with coconut oil and alternated with warm water every two hours...
but he looks like he is getting weaker and he hasn’t pipped yet.
You all seem so kind so please if you have any advice we would greatly appreciate it!

Don't open any more. Lock down and wait.

So sorry. :hugs

Good luck with the rest!

We lost another one... he was not moving this morning and that green stuff appeared again...
he passed sometime during the night. We opened him up and he was gone gone

He looks like he didn’t absorb all of his yolk...

But we are on day 32....

I have 4 more... any advice!? Should I help them!?

This late, I would candle them all. Look for movement and see if the air cell is drawn down. If not, there is no point in helping.
I sure hope some make it for you!
:fl

The first one was malpositioned and looked like he tried to break through on the wrong end and then quit.

The second one passed during the night...

I just upped the humidity and the temp for the others...
my incubator is the “magicfly mini incubator.”

I lost 2 last night myself, that had internally pipped and died. tomorrow is supposed to be hatch day. So I know how heartbreaking it is. And how hard it is to be patient. But there really isn’t much you can do right now.

How long have your girls been laying? Did they take a break and are these new season eggs? Mine are, and my eggs were outside with a hen that I thought was broody (she actually is now, but wasn’t when I took these eggs to the incubator) so I kinda expected many of mine wouldn’t make it.

Just fishing for possibilities on why yours are quitting.... I do definitely think your temperature was too low throughout incubation.

The first one I lost was her very first egg she ever layer and it stayed in the nest for 6 days before we started incubating... we had to wait on it to arrive so I left it with her for a while. I did notice when I candled that the embryo seemed to be in a weird spot compared to what I had researched and so I kept a close eye on it...
I put the safety hole in the air sac after it failed to hatch on hatch day, along with the other two that went in the incubator at the same time.
I lost the second one and when we opened him this morning he had the same green stuff on him and around his yolk that the first did, and he looked like the way he was positoned was what I have read to be a form of malpositioning as well... his head was stuck up under his wing pretty good...
they do seem to be small though.
They went in the incubator on December 24th, and I am counting the 25th as day 1 because it is so chilly here.
So we are on day 32 for the first 3, and then I have two that are on day 30, and the youngest is on day 29...

I just placed a moist paper towel in there and refilled the reservoir to increase humidity and upped temperature to help... It has been set on 38.6C and I raised it to 39.6C. Is that wrong?
The other 3 do not have safety holes.
Should I give them one?
And I did open the oldests safety hole up slightly so I could check the membrane, after I read on another thread to do this and it appears to be not clear but a cloudy white...

What am I doing wrong?? My kids are thinking I’m killing these poor babies and it’s getting to me...
I’m a button click away from ordering a new incubator with automatic turner, and humidity monitor because I feel like something isn’t right here...

The air cell on them all is drawing down and they are all moving. I did increase temp and humidity... see my other reply a little further down.

Any and all advice much appreciated!! My children are thinking I’m killing these babies... it’s breaking my heart
