Mama Heating Pad in the Brooder (Picture Heavy) - UPDATE

Blooie- so glad you got some good news. You've been far too stressed and I am sure you needed that to take the edge off.

Guess what we started yesterday... Building our coop for the babies!!! I can't wait to post pics of it all when it is done. We won't have electric out there so the chicks will still be indoors with us at least until it is finished. I imagine it will be a couple weekends of work (our weekends are Wednesday and Thursday). We got the base built yesterday and will get the walls framed and the roof joists mounted today... I also bought paint yesterday for it. It's gonna be so cute!!!

Oooo!!! Start a new build thread in the construction forum?
Post a link to new thread here.

my dad swears he had that problem in Texas.....
If that's the case, I should have a ton of eggs today! Super windy here in East Texas. Just had some storms come through dropping the temps down and windy as all get out.

I'm working on a new mhp. It will look very similiar to my last one, but will be bigger. I have eggs in the incubator that should be hatching this weekend. It's my first hatch, so I hope at least some of them hatch.

I totally will once we get a bit more done today. Just wanted to share about my excitement here since this was my first BYC thread to post in lol. Its cold out (and very windy) so I don't want to go outside and build, but I want to build so... It's gonna happen, even if I am layered up.

Upgraded my MHP rack today....added 1/4" HC under the rack....so no(never say never?) chance of stuck heads between rack wires.
Screwed ends between rack and leg mounts and a few zip ties.
Not a great pic..kind of hard to see unless you zoom in.

Set 22 eggs yesterday and 6 more EE chicks ordered to arrive very close to hatch day(I hope).
Will still have them in brooder inside for a few days,
then am determined to get them into the coop partition with the MHP and 'portaled' partition wall.
Decided I didn't like the HC, thinks it would have impeded contact between pad and chicks.......
......so cut out every other cross wire so spacing is too big for chick head to get stuck.
Due to uneven wire count, space in center is bigger,
don't think that will be a problem as stiff wood on top will keep chicks weight from pushing pad thru spaces.
Used a dremel with a heavy duty cut off wheel.

Back to sleek, simple, and effective.

Noobie question again
hide.gif
Is it normal for them to have a little poop on their butts/around their vents or is that what pasty butt is? About 4 or 5 of them had poop around their butts this morning, cleaned them and coconut oil applied. Just wondering if it's normal or if any amount of poop around their vents is what pasty butt is?

Yes, that's pasty butt...
It's not unusual for them to have one incidence due to digestive system getting tuned in,
but if it continues it might be a concern.
Can be caused by too much heat.

Well crap, one of my buffs is favoring her leg :/ Like holding it up when she's standing and then limping when she walks :( I took a video but don't know how to post it?
