I do throw it into the compost.. some sand sticks to the poop so you will have a little sand in your compost.. don’t know if that matters or not

It doesn’t matter to me.. I was using deep litter before and was finding it hard to keep fresh and smelling nice... especially with our hot humid weather! Plus, I found that left tons of hiding places for mosquitoes.. whereas with the sand.. not so much. I also have cats so I am very aquatinted with “scooping”... and the chicken poop is MUCH easier to scoop!!
