man barged into house

Darn Kirby people! They called me once bbq'ing naked and the other time I just got done burying a beloved horse. Same spiel here too. I told them after the last time to never ever come back. Did yours drive an Astro van too????

My husband is in the Navy (19 years!) and deploys a lot (7 months out of the year, generally). I don't let salesmen in the house. I don't care what they are selling - magazines, vacuums, hairbrushes or God. You don't come in my house. I'm the block watch captain of my part of the neighborhood and I know the lengths to which criminals will take to case your place, which do include using a Kirby vacuum, btw. I cannot stress this enough - DO NOT LET THEM IN YOUR HOUSE!

A proper company wouldn't send people to your house without an invitation from you, arranged beforehand after you made first contact. I don't care how good the product is - an honorable company wouldn't do that.

If its a cute kid in your neighborhood selling chocolate for school - buy it on your front porch. Five years down the line, that cute kid may be hooked on meth and wondering if you still have something worth selling for more meth. Because you had such lovely stuff last time they were inside your house.

I have guns, lots of ammo and bifocals. 20 years ago I was the best sharpshooter in my Army ROTC unit. I'm likely a bit rusty not, but do you really want to test the odds on that?

Besides, I have five roosters who are counting on me to feed their ladies. Wanna test them, too?

No matter what DO NOT LET THEM IN HOUR HOUSE!

P.S. The story about the chocolate seller - Sadly, that's a true story. We have three neighborhood kids on our block now on meth. Two kids on the next street were just arrested, my neighbor's kid just escaped police custody - he used to mow my lawn when my husband deployed. The Barefoot Bandit is from our town.

The main issue is that someone --for whatever reason-- was able to
get to your porch before you even knew they were on your property.

Buy yourself enough time to react. Alarm on your gate or driveway, even
if it's just tin cans on a string. Buy yourself enough time to react. Those few
seconds may very well save your life.

Get in the habit of keeping your doors locked when you're alone.

Please, do all you can to keep yourself safe at all times.

Spook....just one of the many people here who care about you.

hmm... I've got a friend who works for kirby and they don't do demos unless scheduled in advance...
he's in CA, maybe it's different regionally.

and yeah, anyone who tries to get themselves in by being pushy around my place is either going to be escorted to the gate by my friend Glock or laying face down on the cold kitchen tile with their hands on the back of their neck under glock supervision until the sherrif arrives... and that might take 20 minutes or more. they're going to have hypothermia by the time the sherrif gets here!

Besides a gun it sounds like you need some dogs. I have 4 of my own. And our DD has one. All big dogs. Noone comes here without us knowing and if they are not welcome I tell them once to leave. If they don't I will release the dogs. And bring a gun with me too. But I have a friend that has a Bishone Frise(Iknow not spelled right) but I do know he will tear you a new butt. A dog is the answer. I look at it like this. If someone gets through our doors and than my dogs they are going to get what they deserve. They are obviously not here to be nice and to visit. Get a dog. I am so sorry this happened to you.

I have a rescue maltese - but he only has 4 teeth........ he was sleeping when these guys came into the back porch...... I would like to find a big dog that is good with my chickens. Any ideas on the best breed?

All of mine are rescue. Any dog no matter the size can be a deterant to an intruder. My personal preferance is big dogs. 3 of my dogs are Mastiff and Chow. The 4th according to the vet is Doberman, Rott, German Shephard, Mastiff, and Bloodhound. Our DD's dog is a Rott puppy. Our smallest dog weighs 75lbs. The biggest is 120lbs. But that is my preference. Our friend that has the small dog feel safe with him. I will tell you they asked me to let him out for them one time. I went in the house and he tried to kill me. So actually both work. All are rescues.

I don't post very often, but this story hit home.

This summer, this guy came to my friend's door and about barged in until her dog stopped him, a neighbor stopped by to check on her kids, and I ended up calling her because I had seen the guys driving erratically and was wondering if everything was okay at her house. He ended up leaving. As he was leaving, we found out he had two other BIG guys waiting in the van to come in when she opened her door to him. If you read the comments on this article and the first article published about him, all of the people who saw him (all over Idaho) say that their dog scared him away. Dogs are a great deterrent!!

It's annoying when they are pushy anyway, but we didn't realize that this was more than just annoying until he showed up on a website and we realized just how scary it was.

I'm glad you're okay!!
