I've been known to toss a handfull of scratch. That immediately re-directs their attention.

Well my dogs will be happy tonight with their evening meal they will have 2 fresh eggs, one is grossly still body temerature. I have never felt a warm egg prior to today.

I still love finding a warm egg, especially on freezing cold day.

Why feed to dogs, you do not eat eggs?


The egg song, which is very hard(for me anyway) to tell apart from the alarm call, has sent me running too......but in time you will learn the difference.

If I catch the legband number of the bird that laid the warm egg, it is a perfect opportunity to number the egg and pedigree it for incubation so you know who both parents of the future chick to be.

You're lucky! While I was "numb" watching 'Driving Miss Daisy' and munching on ice chips, the lady down the hall was screaming bloody murder! Apparently she was on her 5th hour of hootin' and hollarin' before I got there. Nope. Nada. Not for me! lol

I worked on a maternity ward as my first real Army job, man those L&D Nurses had the best stories to tell!

I will eat them on occasion as breakfast tacos, but my wife prefers to live in a vegan idealogy world. She will only cook those for the dogs, and I am too lazy to cook I get my breakfast tacos around the corner where they make them better than I ever could!

The way they toast tortillas is just divine we keep trying to replicate them but can't even though we often buy theirs. I suspect it might have something to do with lard as olive and veggie oils make ours look right but the tortilla texture is off and hard.

I'm getting really hungry thinking about the kind of food you can get where you live.

Expanding on the eggs I do not want to see them go to waste at all and getting the dogs fed was a great compromise for us. If all 5 hens go into production I might be offering them to the neighbors(gratis) as I actually possess empathy for my fellow man.

Another option moving forward is to maintain a retirement flock of older hens past their productive prime or building your flock of more ornamental than production type breeds.

I chose this breed Sumatra as all of the breeder sites said they were poor producers of eggs(Fake news! they lay well around 120+/annum). The roos were meant to be ornamental, but turned out to be tempermental and aggressive so got gone. We are happy keeping our girls, and days like today when the doors and windows are open they keep coming inside to chat, squat and get butt rubs(thanks aart).
