You know I have only three breeds that I wanna talk about - - -
Marans, Speckled Sussex, and Delawares.

These are speckled sussex started chicks.

Ahhh I wanna see pic of your chicks when you get them! I know you've been looking for good ones for awhile now

Cheryl, are your birchen eggs coming from Gabbard Farms?

He is indeed a pretty boy! He looks a lot like a boy I have that's about 7 months old or so....the only real difference I can see that yours was so silver...mine has what I think Bev referred to as genes for both silver and gold...I think anyways. Whoever inherited him was lucky, lucky!

I had blue birchen but my was a split for gold.. yours has superior color quality.. Nice one.. and the blue copper bird.. super cute.. I would cross it on a light eyed male with more copper ... A black copper would darken the blue down some.. a blue, depending on the quality could either lighten or darken the bird.. Pink's main man would darken it...

.. and give it good egg color.

While we are on the subject of birchens...I was wondering if anyone could give me some feedback on a black birchen Marans I have. Things that are obvious things I need to work on with him are his comb and he is clean legged. This will be my first season breeding with him, but I've looked at my birds so many times I find myself going back and forth alot on them.
And that squinty eye he is giving the camera...that his 'I'm keeping an eye on you, and I'm gonna get you while you aren't ready for it.' He's not too bad, but I don't turn my back on him. I kinda think he is ready for a pen of his own girls without sharing with any other boys. I've had him mixed in with all the young birds his age for the winter months in some stalls...so hopefully moving him and getting him back into an outside pen, he will behave...
here he is

You just hold on to your horses Mr. Mel!!!! Patience.......besides.....do the letters BLRW mean anything to you? If it does, you just wait for the Birchens.

Okay, where have you guys been hiding all these beautiful birchens from us? LOL I have naughty boys I don't turn my back on too. Mine all seem to be blue birds that have major attitudes. I think he is awesome! You should definitely give him some of his own girls. The only obvious thing is his comb like you said but geez he has Potential with a capital P. It seems like a lot of the birchens I've come across, have clean shanks (kinda like the golden cuckoos).
In France, are the Birchens usually clean or feather shanked?
