I MUCH PREFER the SILENT red combs and wattles that show up early than the PITTIFUL crowing!

Im sure you would but I still think it would be funny to see a 3 wk old chick crowing. Im sure it would only take a few days and then I would be fed up with it and the funny part would wear off.

congrats on the new bator!

That's AWESOME! So this means that you must have got your new 'bator...yes?

Mr. Fed Ex man left it on my door step this morning.
Dear ole Dad was checking it out too . . .. Gonna keep it FAR away from him!

I have started to tape mine, (the bottom half only), down to the counter with duck tape. I worry about the cat knocking it over or a child accidentally pulling it down by the cord.

you must have something in the water!

Yea, like nuclear radioactive fall out from Japan! Now if my chickens all start glowing in the dark...

Less than 3 weeks??? Wow! You win? Lisa!

Spitman: I like his color. He does look a little narrow and shortbacked at this point. He should still bulk up a bit.

Math: Those early crowers sound so pitiful as they learn to spit out a real crow and practice over and over and over. Now I know why they call it CROWing. It sounds like a sick crow slowly dying and sending out distress signals.

Pink ~ I envy you the sun! It's been raining here for the last two days, with severe weather, and it's not supposed to quit until THURSDAY!

Supposed to get somewhere between 8-10" of rain too. My poor little chicklets spent their first night out last night in the storm. I felt like a bad mommy, and wanted to run out and save them. But, they need to get used to rain, and it was warm, so I didn't. Then this morning after I let them all out of their coops, comes a downpour. Why are chickens so darn stupid??

The little idiots stood piled up in a corner and got soaked. They have access to their coop, and also a leanto piece of wood, but NOooo, they stand there in the deluge!

Day 21 here, and still no babies. Got 2 pips and a couple of rockers, but I'm thinking they want to be Easter chicks! Set 17 more eggs this morning for another hatch on May 14th. Going to cull early these two times and only keep what looks really good to me right out of the box! Wish me luck with that one!

Anyway, if I can't make it back on here due to the storms; hope everyone has a Happy Easter!

Hey Debbi-I'm glad we've missed some of the severe stuff. My sis is down in the SE corner of Kansas and she has had a few deluges, too.

I bought a GQF incubator the other day. Got it taken to my sis's house. Then today she calls me and there's another one just 1 mile from her! I ended up buying it, too. I gave $150 for each of them.

The first one came from a place north of Springfield.

So now it looks like I will be going down to see my sis this next weekend. She has a bunch of egg cartons, canning jars and these two incubators for me (the second one will be a hatcher.) Then we will do some chicken swapping, too. I'm really looking forward to visiting and all.

Forgot to tell my funny little ditty.

Called my dear friend last night to make sure she fared the storms ok. We, of course, whether she likes it or not, got on the subject of my chickens. Now, this is a gal in her mid 50s, who was raised reeeeeaaaallll country. No electric, no running water, and way out in the hills. So, we get talking of my chooks and I tell her I had ordered the 5 pullets some chicken aprons. "You ordered, WHAT???" Chicken aprons, so they don't get all bare-backed from the roos. Long silence........then "BBBBBBBBWWWWWWWWWAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHAAWWWWWWWWWhahahahah!! You are kidding me, right??" Nope, my girls need the protection from the spurs and their now bare backs need shade from the sun. Another hardy gafaw. Then, "sniff, sniff, I'm sorry, I just never heard of such a thing. I didn't even know that chickens were supposed to have names! The only good chicken, is a fried chicken, sorry." That's ok, they are dears to me, and I can see where you would see the humor in it. "Can I ask you a question?" Sure. "You aren't going to start carrying these dears in a chicken purse or put them on a leash or anything, are you?!" Another huge gafaw; yes, she really tickled herself with that one!
lol.png
No, I promise, no chicken purse. I guess non-chicken folks don't view them the way we do. Glad to be amongest other crazy people on here!!

Wish I could find a chicken clucking toy or music type box. I do have a rather large purse, and the next time we go out to eat, I would LOVE to have it in my purse, just softly clucking away!

I think she would get up and leave me there!!!

Wow! Some people have all the luck, great find Susie!! I may just end up building one. Those things weigh about 90lbs., and unless I can snag one of the neighbor boys to help me, I'd have to hatch eggs out of the back of my truck!

Glad you are missing the bad weather. So far, I have lucked out too. One major storm went to the north of me, and last night the big one went to the south. Watching the radar on TV, it looked to be sitting right on top of me, and I kept waiting for the worst. It had to be just down the road from me. Guess I'll see any damage when I go to town later. Stay safe!
