Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Thanks for the replies, I really just do this chicken thing as a hobby. I won't be selling my mutant strain olive eggers hens. So the BCM line is safe!! LOL But I appreciate the feedback. Now all I can do is wait and see what kind of eggs the hens produce and see how big the Roosters get!! Thanks again.

If you like eggplant I have an amazing recipe for you..Heck...even if you don't like eggplant, everyone I've had try it loves it!

I didn't plant any eggplant this year. . . . I had it running out of my ears last year!

I did plant a mess load of okra and green beans. I checked yesterday, and the beans will be ready soon!

Went to our swap today.. Some random gal has a CHARLIE girl!!! he he... What a snag for her... Hope she posts!!! Keep me posted on the progress if ya can...

I have canned a few things. Last year I made strawberrry jam for the first time on my own. I was shocked it came out. It was a little runnier than I wanted but still edible lol. I cheated and bought strawberries from the store to make it since I didn't have enough of my own

We make our own salsa because we have to do something with all those peppers I like to grow.

That reminds me I need to go buy some eggplant plants. My mom only grows hers in pots and she gets tons so that is what I am doing this year.

I bought some red okra seeds from ECHO and also some Moringa oleifera tree seeds. Moringa tree is amazing you can eat the whole tree and they are using it to combat hunger in other countries. They are drought tolerant. The roots can be used like horseradish, the seedpods like greenbeans and the leaves like spinach. I have little tiny trees coming up now. I got some other stuff too that I haven't tried before.

Echo.net is a really cool place to buy edible seed stuff here's the link. They are inexpensive and the proceeds go to fight hunger.

Wow!! I seriously can't register in my brain with how cold and wet its been here that you are already harvesting beans. Its been too wet to plant early season crops yet too....its depressing. My greenhouse is starting to look like a jungle!

I had someone tell me about what they do to use some of their okra...I'm very curious to try it. They dry it and season and said that the texture when dried and seasoned is similar to fritos...but without all the salt. I'm game to try it. I'm also going to try to make some dehydrated and flavored zucchini. I know a lady that makes them and they sell like crazy. they are just like gummy bear or gum drops....

how do you use the okra you grow? I am growing burgundy and clemson spineless this year. The seedlings are just now coming up...I'm a good month away from planting yet I think

I Have some black copper chicks that got here last wednesday, they were day olds when shipped, but I think this little rooster was maybe a few days older. So he MIGHT be almost 3 weeks, he gets up on the side of the feeder and crows away. Way too cute.
