Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I think they are both males. But I could be wrong, has happened before. Chick 1 is definitely male though and I'm sure more will pop by with their opinions. Enjoy them! At this age they are so full of themselves.

I second the hunch that they are males....

. The eggs are still very dark, even for this time if the year. They are the original wade jean line C2 blacks, and the birchen are breed from them. Very excited to start hatching some chicks. Wish me luck.

Debbi, dear, I don't fear you, but I do wonder about a lot of things you say.
Right now, I am wondering who that Blue aussie finally bit that was the " last straw".
It doesn't sound like it the mayor was the last.....

Gilavina .. . . Is it you and me who started this building thing this spring? We are setting coop #2 in place this weekend. Yesterday, I started digging trenches around them to bury hardware cloth in. Dh is going to work on building entry doors into the pens and I am going to finish digging trenches. I still have one more coop to go. It is running about two months per coop. I am just hoping to have the last one done BEFORE the cold sets in. How is the barn building going?

I've got a broody hatching eggs this weekend and a set of eggs in the incubator. I SWORE I wouldn't do anymore hatching this year. I packed up by incubator 14 weeks ago. Then someone stood me up on picking up a messload of eggs and I had to drag it out 10 weeks ago. Now, I have some "special" eggs in there that someone just sent me. . . ..

Somebody just SMACK me so that I can move on to something else... For God's sake there are chickens - 7 week old chickens - in my living room. There is no place outside for them! WHAT ? ? ? and I am hatching more ? ? ?

Please, smack me cause it ain't right around here folks!

I let the darlin 7 week olds go outside all day and just bring them in at night, incase you are wondering. I am wondering what type of influence I am on my children. I sure hope they turn out OK despite the chicken thing

I do believe the "Mayor", her name was Kim, was the last victim of old Blue. I lived in town at the time, and the whole town was under a "Community Refurbishment Program". I had warned her, and there was also a sign on the gate, that the dog will bite. She looked at the dog and muttered something under her breath as to how small she was, no problem. I was just getting home from work, and saw her enter the gate from about 1/2 block away. Blue was just doing what was her nature to do, herd and protect, the woman was trespassing. Kim walked in the gate, turned around to close it, kicked at the dog as she started to venture into the yard, and it was all over but the yelling!

I pulled into the driveway just as it had happened, and she ran out screaming at me, "your dog bit me, your dog bit me!" Told her I saw the whole thing, did she not see the sign on the gate, and remember that I told her the dog bit?? "Well, yeh, but she is a small dog, didn't think it was much of a threat." She only got a good nip in the arse, nothing a ram or cow wouldn't have gotten, it sure wasn't a mauling!

She also knew what time I got home from work. If she hadn't been so nosey, as small town folks can be, and waited 2 more minutes, she would've avoided the whole thing. We moved to the current place I live in now about 3 months later....no nosey neighbors here, and Blue lived out her days herding cats and chasing rabbits. Prior to living in town, we lived on a small farm where Blue herded sheep, pigs, and the occaisional rogue bull from the neighbors farm. She knew how to get their attention, and evidently, Kim's too!
