I have lots of catching up to do but I just looked @ the egg pick those look way better then my splash girl... today she acted anxious in her nest. She would go in there for 40min then come out then shed be back in there and she just repeated the behavior all day and never laid an egg
but if you are too tired post them in the morning.
I bought 2 watermelons today at the farmer's market. I wanted pumpkins but they had none..anywhere. Its crazy that there were no pumpkins, its like almost Halloween!! I also bought a stalk of sugarcane because my dd wanted it lol. Then I bought some rhambutan fruits they are so cool and look like spikey strawberries. I am going to plant the seeds to get trees. Then I found this guy that was selling monsterous sized Longan and Star fruit trees at a good price so I bought one of each. The greenhouse is gonna be really crowded this year.
Everyone is looking for cheap entertainmentt these days pumpkins were sparse here too.

hmmm....hopefully she is not egg bound.... maybe she was just havin an off day? Ya know how you were saying that you found your girls nesting in the scafolding? I found out where the majority of my girls started laying...I had cleaned the nests and gave them nice fresh bedding and was finding one egg here, one egg there kind of thing...and today finally found where they've been laying for the last two days. They have a hide out between the side of the house and a stack of materials from a storage shed I took down. I collected 20 eggs from back there, which means all 10 of my girls from that flock laid both days!
you know how to work towards darkening your eggs through breeding, yes?

Oh my goodness this day couldnt get any crazier or more painful... vicki I think you gave me your "bad luck bug" today! And I hope it won't continue any longer.
First things first started off the day with loose horses 1 in my yard and the other out of sight (she's a spooker) so I got my stud colt in (he's 2) and got the girls up to go look for my mare which I could see over the hill and the only entrance into this feild that I knew of was on the other side of the 80acre crp crop. So drove over there caught her and walked her back while driving the truck. ( she doesn't mind vehicles but hated the wind/high pressure) got home.... then while walking her out to the barn a freakin bird with amazing aim crapped on me and just so happened that it was early enough I was in my pj shorts and muck boots and it landed on my thigh and continued down my leg into my boot.
Okay ill stop here, This wasn't concerning to me... Nor did I pick up on the hint that this was the beginning of a very dangerous day... y? Because I naturally have bad luck and I'm okay with that cause I'm sure God gets a kick
out of it. BUT today NO it got personal
Then after that to keep this a "short story" I experienced
- head butted by my milking goat
- 2 of my roos fighting and bloodied (never seen my roos do this) got acouple seriously blows trying to break it up
- a flat tire ( I pinched my finger in the jack)
- my hand got shut in th car door (thanks to my daughter)
Then I decided to quite fighting with the day and went home
-Only to find my dog had tore the crap out of my diaper genie bag full of diapers (poopy) then aparently decided to roll in it. (Luckily I have wood floors)
Forgot to mention the hydrolics on my tractor... somethings up there!
So I called a friend to see if she could take the girls so I could have an over due break. She said yes shed take them to the park.
-While getting them ready my 8mos old flung her head back and hit my lip/nose. Fat lip and numb nose.
After they left I decided to do some baking (that's just what I do to escape life)
Can anyone guess what happened next?
Its the last and final thing.

Yes although like I said I have very few hens in my Dark egg program. I started this a few years back and culled quite a few hens. (I wasn't serious about marans just wanted the dark eggs. And that friend of mines mother gave me 6 hens. Which was good but soon I wanted something better. She closed her flock and I had to find a roo so I ordered some Nw this this was a big mistake I didn't think the Roo would play any part in egg color. So I was pretty up set when I got lighter eggs from their offspring. That set me back but I had learned something lol. Then it became about what I could acomplish if I started with less the great colored eggs. This spring I hatched only hens and no roosters from my girls. Which is why I am leasing one.
I have a decent under standing of how to darken egg color through breeding. Except that my splash girls NEVER lay dark eggs. Anyway I. Had a revalation that in reality all I really knew about marans was egg color... had no clue what to look for outside of egg color. That is why I am here cause I feel bad breeding chickens for egg color while throwing out/selling ugly and really bad marans as far as sop
Ok everyone, the fat lady and the rooster that that won't stop crowing!
I sold his brothers For $3.00 at the show, I would really would have liked to keep Pretty boy, the birchen. But now that Clyde is top rooster....
I guess it's going to be a BCM project!
