Sounds like you had a great time. I can't wait to see pics of your new birds. Congrats on your winning birds. I am still catching up on the thread. I spent the whole weekend working ICU and I'm dead tired lol. I love relaxing and reading about chickens again and going out to see mine. I hate when you have to leave when its dark and then you don't get home till its dark and miss seeing your birds!!

Debbie: UH OH does this mean you want to hatch Showgirls next??? Haha.

yes! I had a fantastic time and talked with a ton of people and reconnected with people that used to show with or knew from when I was a show secretary when i was in highschool. It was a great time! I'm workin on loadin a couple of photos that I got of my new birds when i was at the show before they came home with me. I had forgotten I'd changed memory cards and that they were on the other one. I couldn't find them last night when I was so tired.

Here is a picture of the new flashlight that I will be trying out when we candle our Blue Marans eggs. I picked this one up a Menards- hopefully you can read the package good enough.

I tried to turn is so it was upright but guess I didn't do it right

Looks like the one I just used. Worked like a charm on the Cuckoo eggs (and everything blue and white). Haven't tried the Black Coppers yet ....

it is a very bright light-I have to hide it from DS(6) so he doesn't play with it! Hopeing to candle in a little bit, waiting for DH to come inside so he can help. He's gotten very good at it.

Ok...here are my new arrivals. I knew I'd gotten plenty of pics when they were in the coops on the silent auction, but couldn't find them. I got two trios of bantam Columbian Wyandottes!

the one little girl in the second photo back behind refused to come out for me to get a good photo. grr

Also...when I was outside after checkin on all my animals after the show, i thought i would be watching a game of dog chase cat, but no...it was roo chase cat.

here is my Splash copper boy before he caught glimpse of my young tom cat Poncho. He always comes up the sidewalk to investigate whether there are treats or not. (the splash boy I kept didn't turn out too bad did he Debbi?

)

and here is about 30 seconds later...Poncho in the tree on the lookout and soaking up some reassurance.

Ok pinkchick you asked for it.... PICS Heavy Sorry... If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all! He is my only blue and he is going to be used.

I think he is a real looker... this is with a flash.

Now tell me what type of BCM Pullet to breed him with to make more nice blue coppers???? I don't have much to chose from but I have some that are almost black and some that are almost copper

Think he is quite nice! I love his blue lacing.

I've got 8 maran eggs in the bator now, hoping they hatch next week. It's my first go with incubating and of course the borrowed one is a (I think) an LG.

It has been a bear to keep the temps within 2 degrees. So, hoping these 8 blue maran over Partridge? maran eggs hatch. There are also 2 welsummer eggs in there as well. Is there a partridge color? I can't rememeber what the hens were, just that they are pure maran, but different types...

Thank you!

No partridge... I don't think. Birchin, Wheaten, columbian....did I miss something?

Good luck on your hatch.

Thanks for my beautiful cuckoo girls. Although I haven't had a chance to really get to know/ look at them very closley. Tomorrow I'm moving them to the "SEMI new" winter coop.
Today while working on it I stopped and looked around and it looked more disasterous then it did before I started

Wonder what Don, Debbi and our very own "comb snob" Wynette (and I mean comb snob in a very loving way...she knows it too
smile.png
) think of his comb???

Not just saying that because he is from my birds either, he is truly a nice boy.
Feathers on the toe are something that I have never liked and bred away from, but since it is on the standard, I am now over looking feathers on the outer toes with the birds. Watch for white tail feather on this boy....Gnarles had 2 that came out just after he turned 1.5 years old, but I am unsure if I hurt him one day when the tail was all I could grab and then suddenly 2 white feathers where there. They turned blue again over time, but now have turned white again and he is molting very very hard right now and I am afraid that butchering weekend is coming up sooner than his molt will finish so that I can see what color they are going to be.

Also...watch for the stupid comb thing in the offspring, I have not completely narrowed that down yet, waiting for the 'bator to start popping with activity.
With that said.....I say test mate him to a Splash or another Blue Copper gal (a dark blue with very dark copper or very little copper) if you have one to see what color of blue you will get. If you don't have a splash or dark blue gal then try a very dark Black Copper gal. Maybe Don will advise on this as well.

His tail set is waaaaaaaaayyyyyy nicer than his fathers...Gnarles has a very long back and his tail is a good angle it just looks funny (to me) because his back is so long.
Nice lacing and nice blue color. Copper is nice as well.
He has friendlier head than his dad does too.

On second thought maybe you should just ship him back to me and I will do all the test mating for you.
