Can't wait to see her!

I spent some time watching the 2 Marans momma's yesterday that are now sharing a space and sharing chicks. I was surprized at how well they got along. I am totally inlove with my Splash gal and was admiring how pretty she is and thinking to myself.....gosh I can't wait until she is laying again, I'm snatching up her eggs and putting everyone of them I can in the 'bator. For sure I will get some nice birds out of her and Lil' Bill.

I didn't even candle until day 18 and did each one as I was transferring to lockdown. I hardly ever remember to candle early on.

Do you have any of those Blue Copper gals eggies in there?

I hardly ever remember to candle until lock down also

I bet that putting her with Lil' Bill would indeed produce some great birds!

I am happy to be seeing the size I want on Marans. I really tried while I was at the show to get a chance to talk to the APA president. He judged all my Large Fowl birds and wanted to talk with him about the Marans...but man, he was hard to single out. The judging took most of the day, even with three judges and he was only around for about an hour after that...during that hour he must have had about 40 people talking to him, so I never did get the chance.

Hey Anna! I'm really happy that the girls are transistioning alright. If I didn't have so many other birds I would have happily kept them...so it makes me feel better that they had a place to go that they would be well taken care of and could be put to use in your blue cuckoo project. They should tame down for you pretty quickly once they get used to their new surroundings! I can't wait to see what they produce for you when cross with that blue boy of yours!

Thanks for my beautiful cuckoo girls. Although I haven't had a chance to really get to know/ look at them very closley. Tomorrow I'm moving them to the "SEMI new" winter coop.
Today while working on it I stopped and looked around and it looked more disasterous then it did before I started

don't quit know what happened lol.

thanks Anna! I was so excited to even win 1st with one bird, so I was pretty much over the moon the entire weekend with all the good news. I think getting back into showing was confirmed as the right choice this weekend. I was so nervous I almost scratched all my entries the day before. I'm so glad I didn't!

Wonder what Don, Debbi and our very own "comb snob" Wynette (and I mean comb snob in a very loving way...she knows it too

) think of his comb???

Not just saying that because he is from my birds either, he is truly a nice boy.
Feathers on the toe are something that I have never liked and bred away from, but since it is on the standard, I am now over looking feathers on the outer toes with the birds. Watch for white tail feather on this boy....Gnarles had 2 that came out just after he turned 1.5 years old, but I am unsure if I hurt him one day when the tail was all I could grab and then suddenly 2 white feathers where there. They turned blue again over time, but now have turned white again and he is molting very very hard right now and I am afraid that butchering weekend is coming up sooner than his molt will finish so that I can see what color they are going to be.

Also...watch for the stupid comb thing in the offspring, I have not completely narrowed that down yet, waiting for the 'bator to start popping with activity.
With that said.....I say test mate him to a Splash or another Blue Copper gal (a dark blue with very dark copper or very little copper) if you have one to see what color of blue you will get. If you don't have a splash or dark blue gal then try a very dark Black Copper gal. Maybe Don will advise on this as well.

His tail set is waaaaaaaaayyyyyy nicer than his fathers...Gnarles has a very long back and his tail is a good angle it just looks funny (to me) because his back is so long.
Nice lacing and nice blue color. Copper is nice as well.
He has friendlier head than his dad does too.

On second thought maybe you should just ship him back to me and I will do all the test mating for you.

Nice try!!! He is staying here.... I don't have any blues or splash girls... but I have some very dark BCM girls.... He will get the best ones I have in a few weeks. I can't wait to see what kinda babies I get with him. Thanks
