Thanks, I will! You have AM too don't you? I will send you pics of my new birds soon.

AM? you mean ameraucanas? I do have just one right now, but was raised around them. That's one of my mom's favorite breeds, so she had a nice flock of them as well as my uncle raises them.

Got some Black/splits/Lavs and Wheatens from top breeders.. you need some eggs so you will have more

. Wish I had started with that with my Marans....

Hey Lisa, I will look through my birdies and see what I can find for you. I have pretty well culled down pretty tight for winter, but might have something in there. On the comb foreign on a Marans, would an olive egger girl work? She looks like a Marans, but has a peacomb. I didn't post cause I didn't know if that would work or not.

I think so.... We can just attach a note with it .
Just recently somebody posted pics on the thread thinking they had marans when they really had an olive egger.
I think this issue is going to become so common in the future that we might as well post what it looks like and what it comes from . . .

It would be nice if we could post the a perfect comb, The Creme de la Creme of combs. That way folks can compare WHAT it SHOULD be to What is SHOULD NOT BE....

Oh Wynette, my dear comb snob friend

, you wouldn't by chance have a pic of the PERFECT or Nearly Perfect comb that you could post ? ? ?

ok...give me a few minutes and I'll see if I can find a pic of her. I think I got one the other day when I was out. The real kicker is that she has the most gorgeous blue lacing I've ever had on my birds. Everytime I see her I wish she were a pure blue Marans girl

Hahah..sometimes I wish that were true, but am glad that I have the birds I do. I am looking for some BBS ameraucanas...altho the source for the chicks is about 14 miles down the road. I am gonna see if i can get a couple of pullets from my uncle in the spring, or else some chicks when he starts hatching.

Oh, genetic experts out there - - HELP ME PLEASE....

So, if I wanted to breed my BCM to a breed that had a recessive color what could I use?

I have two white breeds on hand - - leghorns and delawares, but I think they are both dominant white.

Any ideas as to which breeds have recessive coloring to cross to a BCM ? ? ? ?

THANKS for the help

I think MOST White Ameraucanas are receive white but not ALL

no help huh... you would have to test hatch to find out.... Not sure the Leghorns are dominate.... I hatched two Leghorn crosses and One is white and I don't even know what color the other one is... but it is a color. I only have two whites out of 26 hatched and the other White came from a dark brown egg.

well...in looking at some older photos as well I found I did happen to have photos of birds I no longer have hiding in some folders. I'll have to keep hunting for you to see what else I can find, but its a start

Here is that peacombed girl mentioned. the second photo is of another one. I didn't know which photo might have a better viewing angle for people, so I'm posting both.

this is a BCM boy I had that had some white in his tail crop up over night. Might have been related to molting, I'm not sure, didn't hold onto him long enough to find out. he turned mean once he hit the 6 month mark and would start launching himself at my face every time I needed to fill waterers or feed trays...so he was invited to dinner one night

this is a blue birchen girl that has over coloring in her breast, but I posted the photo because she also has mossiness in her body as well. In the birchens it comes through more as white and shades of cream than it does brown like in the BCMs. I didn't know if this would help or not.
