Pea Comb much appreciated.
The mossiness on the Blue Birchen is EXTRA SPECIAL. .. Folks tend think mossiness can only come in brown and it will NICE to be able to show them an example of it in a different color.

this is the pic I posted of my blue copper the other day. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/77986_img_2471.jpg

a blue copper should ideally look exactly like a nicely copper collared black copper hen, but instead of a black body, a blue body. Their breast should be predominantly blue, your girls seem to run really heavy on the breast coloring. They are lovely, and if you don't plan on breeding to standard or for selling breeding stock and etc, they won't matter for a backyard flock.

If the birds don't have feathering when they hatch more than likely they won't get any...although you might want to ask BarnGoddess about the magical grass up in Canada and leg feathering

In all the breeds and colors I raise I cull heavily. If they have obvious DQs or faults that I can't work with in a breeding program, they are immediately removed from the option of going to the breeding pen. I do keep a layer flock for selling eating eggs, and do keep a regular supply of replacements out of my culls for that pen so I don't end up with birds all the same age. As far as whether they have or do not have leg feathering, it all depends on the situation. If I have a male that is clean legged but is fantastic in all other respects, and I have girls that are nicely feathered, I will put him over them and keep only those chicks that have good feathering from the offspring. Same for the clean legged girls. Now, if I have enough birds with good feathering on their legs, then I won't keep the clean legged ones, unless they have some attribute I'm needing...which will still require tons of culling and keeping only those that have good feathering. Its all a process and takes time. Oh...and other birds that don't make it to my breeding pen or to the layer flock will go as layers to other people's back yard flock (sold as dark egg layers), or they go to freezer camp. Marans are mighty tasty.

One of my Cuckoos is definitely going to have to avoid the magic Canadian dew!!! He's going CRAZY with leg feathering!!!!! Giving my Silkie a run for its money in that department, this one is!

I posted my Rudy, with feathers on middle toe.
Crappy pic, will get better.
Clyde is blind in one eye, he damaged it in the compost bin.
Will post that one later, I am useless at work today.
My Japanese btm has squirrel tail. But that is ok in Japs.
If we get a little short with the pics, is it OK to post other breeds with these faults, just to use as an example?

I know I can help you out with the squirrel tail and the crooked toe. the roo I no longer have, but he had a nice example, I just gotta look for the pics.
Ok, here he is. he was one of the very first Marans I ever had. Came with some of the girls I bought, shortly after he got here he went to chickie heaven.

I'll have to take a pic of the girl I have in the layer pen...she has the worst case of crooked toes I've ever seen. Its all of them...yes, you heard right...every stinking one of her toes. And its not just crooked...they are crazy toes! I am not sure what caused it as I got her when she was already a couple months old. She is a sweetie and gets around great, so she joined the layer flock and is happy as a clam.

Ho-hummmmmmm.... I was all excited that I was going to do the NYD hatch, eggs are suppose to set tomorrow at 12pm and wouldn't you know it....my girls haven't given me one single egg, STINGY STINKERS!!!!!

But, I found some eggs to hatch that I think will suffice.

After 3 years of...basically pleading and begging the woman I got Bill from to please please please share more birds or eggs with me.....she finally gave in yesterday when we stopped by to say hello and pick up the special wormer stuff she makes and we all give our birds on the full moon.

So now my coops are going to smell just like Christmas baking just in time for Christmas and I know this sounds silly and may not make sense to some, but finally some full blooded Bill blood eggs!!!!!!
O Yeah! O Yeah!

If you all know how much I love my boy Bill, Sr., then you understand why I am so blasted excited about these eggs. I can see the 'bator watch now from day 18 to 21. I may as well just set up my sleeping bag and get comfy on the floor for a spell when the time comes.

Thanks!

There's not a smiley with a big enough _ _ _ _ eatin' grin on it to explain just how happy I am right now at this very moment.
She gave me 4 dozen and I gave 18 eggies to my bestie friend.

She has Bill's brother, Mr. French.
