Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Bad influence?????... US???? Nah.... enablers, YES and proud of it. It is a rare breed she need 6 pens to keep the inbreeding down and to keep up with demand....

Single mate him with all the usual suspects and hatch EVERYTHING... I will come get all the culls

Hubby was not into chickens, but he is right there telling everything he knows and then I correct his info

I think he is falling for them but does not want to admit it. He seemed up for the trip, but I still have to "talk" him into it

haha that's way too funny! How far are you from Lincoln, NE?

I'm just really looking forward to whether I'll hear back from that guy and what he might have to say!

I need to find a red 100 watt bulb online somewhere, I hate using the bright light for them to brood under, it does stress them. As soon as the light goes off, they all calm down. I used to use those red 250watt bulbs in my well house to keep it from freezing.

For this reason, I have gone to using a 60 watt Black Light bulb INSIDE the house. In the first two weeks, I will run the lights LOW and use to lights to provide a big enough warm spot. I use a thermometers to make sure the temps are right.

I found the chicks are much more calmer with the black or red lights. . . .

I am thinking of getting some of those Dewlap Toulouse Geese and park their pen as close to the neighbor's property line as I can legally get. I saw them at Newnan last year and I know they are LOUD lol. They will have to do until I can get the laughing hyena chickens that me and Debbie like LOL. I hear peacocks are pretty loud too.

Vicki did you ever get back over there and look at that property you liked?
