How's the prospects lookin so far on the combs for the chicks from birds you've been test mating?

Oh...and I was gonna say, when I was doin chores yesterday mornin i saw there are now three birchen cockerels showing birchen in the neck. all three are blues!

I just wanted to say that I adore the Marans chicken breed!! I am just starting my very first flock and the only roo I am going to not eat (ie, keep) is going to be a Marans roo! Most of my laying hens will be Marans too!!
They are SO beautiful!
It seems like everyone has the naked legged Marans, though, and I LOVE them all, but I more love the really classic-looking feather-legged I also see a ton of the black copper, but it isn't my absolute favorite. I can't remember the color name, but the hens are a buff golden or wheaten color and the Roos have more red on them. They look just like french countryside paintings. They are so GORGEOUS!!!
Did I mention that I love Marans?
Oh, and plus their eggs are awesomely awesome.

I am going to try and find a good breeder because I want really pretty chickens and I don't believe that a hatchery is going to really breed for breed standards and nice eggs... but I'm so new to this that I could be completely wrong... anyone know?

So glad to hear that you love your Marans! They are hard to resist. As for the color you must be thinking for your favorite variety of Marans...you must be thinking of Wheatens Marans. They are very beautiful birds.

Since it is being so slow....I may try to upload them in the morning.
Combs are looking good! So far we are still clear of the carnation comb.........but wanna know what I found this lovely day on my Lil' Bill???
