Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I have a question... What color is the most desirable on the Black Coppers? I love the color on my Black copper, but I have a little roo that I hatched and I kinda like his color too... more the color I think Vicki's roo is. To me though, my guy is copper, this little roo is more Auburn Red color. Is it just a preference thing?

The little roo is kinda the color of this roos wings all over. Very pretty, but I want to breed for correct color too and am looking for clarification.

Donna he is very pretty I like the balance on him. Nice

He's gorgeous! When do the little BCM chicks start to get their colors? Mine are all black and white right now (less than 1 week old.)
also wanted to say- I've got 15 more BCM eggs (really dark ones this time!) in the bator on lockdown- day 20 today- and 3 are pipped already! I think 2 are clear or have bloodrings- but they're still there due to the shells being SO dark I couldn't see clearly enough to justify tossing them. ( the pips on these dark eggs look amazing!) This pic shows 2 of them- with my flashlight and the camera flash on to show....the eggs look darker without the flash tho. I need to get an egg color chart...

Well, I threw my blue boy in with the Ameraucana girls and he's not interested in them. He's six months old and one of Black Copper the same age does the wing dance and all whenever the girls free range by the cockerel pen. Guess I may have to swap them out.:(

got a couple of pics last night. some of the eggs that will be going into the incubator....the white is a sussex egg and all the others are from Black and Splash copper ladies. Hope the bloomy eggs hatch.

I was playing with settings on my camera and caught the girls in a what looks like a gab session over their main man. Kinda cracks me up!

I love that pic! So funny. Your black birchen girl on the left, looks so much like Sassy's blk birchen sister in the face! Her face is really dark too. Pretty girls.

How long has he been in there with them? If it has only been a few days , I would give him a few more to get settled in. I know with our Marans rooster we very rarely see him mating with the hens but the eggs are fertile. Good Luck

Just this afternoon. I went ahead and separated the Marans girls and the two blacks and penned them. Both blacks bred the first girls they could catch. The blue guy is just wondering around. One of the blacks decided I didn't need to be around and took a swipe at me so we had a little meeting of sorts. He was giving me a wide path after that. Might take a few more times before he's totally convinced. I'll give the blue boy some time. Thanks.
