No sign of the white feather returning in the hackle.....yet. I think I pulled it out like 2 months ago or something, so I would think that I should see it coming back pretty soon if it is going to, right?

Out of 3 splash EE's and 1 splash Maran. Only the Maran splash was a girl. I'm still on the fence about a few of the BCM.

nice feathered shanks and toe. She has blue eyes

This one has a curly tail. Rarther no tail

All have nice feathered shanks/toe. A blue olive egger in the background

Thanks Cad! I too love my BLRW's! I have one Splash and one blue and think the blue is trying to go broody again. Last year she was an excellent mommy to some Marans chicks. If she is serious I will let her see it through as she proved herself previously, but man o man, she is a vicious broody!!!!!

My new BLRW roo should be here next week.

So much for downsizing right? LOL!

This young man looks like he will be a nice rooster once mature if I don't send him to camp.

Too bad he is still barred!!!!!!!! He is 5 months old and shouldn't the ghost barring have left by now if that is what it is????

Goat meat is good, so is milk, the catch with goat milk is to never run your buck within 50 yards or so of milk does, it changes the taste of the milk, the other thing is to never use the night milk for human use, I use it for the other animals. And also, what the goat's milk tastes like is dependent on what food you have on them. They love the weeds and etc and therefore it affects the flavor of the milk. By controlling the type of forage the have, you change the flavor. Simple!

We raised Nigerian Dwarf goats for their delicious milk--there is none better IMO, very high in butterfat. But I disagree with Gilavina about the distance of the buck. We had our bucks in a pen right next to the does--separated only by a chain link fence. The milk was delicious, no "bucky" taste to it at all. Now, if those bucks were in the same pen with the does, that would make a difference. But as Gilavina says, what they eat makes a huge difference in milk flavor. Also most important is to get that milk chilled down very fast after milking. We would put the jars of milk in the freezer to get it cold faster. As an aside, if I ever got goats again, which is not likely to happen, I would NEVER keep those bucks that close to the does again--the does come into heat frequently and the bucks moaned over the girls all the time and the sound was very annoying to me. Now I have the doe pen divided into two pens and using one side to grow out my Marans pullets. See I knew I could put the Marans in here somewhere!

Dear Hubby will not allow another buck to live on our property after he experienced the first Nigi boy to live here. He says all males must be nipped before they can live here from here on in.
