Plus, the pics above are full grown girls, not that scraggly teenage boy. When his hormones kick in, so will the size of his wattles.

Don't fight it Christie! They are calling your name! If you go to look at them, you can shoot photos of them at me and I can tell ya which ones have the best type and form. You can win a lot of battles from the beginning just by how you select your stock. If you were closer I'd sell ya this little buckling when he's weaning age. He's gonna be just fantastic....he's solid and has a nice short back. Love it!Oh gosh I posted in the "genetics and selective breeding" section once with a question. My head spun quite quickly. I still am trying to figure out what everyone was saying. lol
There are some very smart chicken genetic nerds on classroom @ the coop.![]()

Yesterday at the salon I was talking about goats all day. One of my clients told me she has a friend who raises pygmy goats!Oh god I am one step closer.....![]()

Marans, yes marans I have those. BCM to be exact!haha Heck yes you do...but then again, I think everyone should have goats and chickens! Especially Marans!
Have you picked up and inspected all of your breeding stock's feet on the bottom? A lot of times birds that carry some yellow leg in them will have a yellow tone to the bottom of their feet instead of the white color they should have.Marans, yes marans I have those. BCM to be exact!
SO to all those that don't know I have the dreaded yellow foot. My current breeders are all non yellow but as it is recessive (as I understand it) my last hatch of six has what I think are 5 yellow feet and one pink. Now the question is ... some of the chicks yellow footed chicks have "yellower" feet than others..... what's up with that?
p.s. once I have a larger breeding group (next year) I will single test mate the breeders to a yellow foot strain and start weeding out the recessive animals.

also what kinda fencing are those pygmy goats going to need?

Fencing depends on what kind of space you have. I have cattle panels and they are lined with 2" x 4" wire. Those pens have been around for a long time tho, before cattle panels and wire got so danged expensive.
I'd say you would be safest with a medium sized grid on fencing. I'm not a huge fan of electric fence here, only because of the frequency of issues I've had with them and animals getting out. Cattle Panels have worked great for me, the main reason I have mine lined is because some chickens will forage in their pens and I don't want them out...also, we have wild dogs come along from time to time that try to snag a goat or chickens through the fence, so lining for us just saved a lot of headaches. There are so many other rolls of wire with all sorts of grid size, that I'm sure you will be able to find something that will work well and is within a decent price range.I will have to do another look at the breeders and see. I was looking for obvious yellow before, but will look for "tones" of yellow this time.
I have 12 flat grassy acres and a very close neighbor with nice gardens not to far from the barn. She is good with the chickens in her flowers but I would guess goats... not so much I am hoping to fence in one or two of the horses feilds to be pygmy goat proof?
