I wouldn't put her with the birchen as she will have the gold genes hidden rather than any silver. Since its the lady that determines the color of the offspring, you will get more golds. I would vote to put her with the blue copperWhat to do? What to do?
My suppose to be Silver Black Birchen girl that is copper colored instead......has been giving me eggs that are nicely colored......well they are putting her back in the ranks of being considered a Marans anyway......so what am I suppose to do with her?
I only have her Silver Black brother and my Blue Copper boys, who would ya'll test mate her to for giggles???
haha...sounds like a plan to me. I am all for test mating to see what you get. I forgot to tell you, I do believe I have a sport birchen cockerel in the 2nd hatch of the year from Gigantor. He's got nice silver coming in, I'll try to get some pics for you this weekend. Thanks Vicki. I don't want to use her for breeding, but rather just to see what she will throw and experiment with egg color to see if I can increase it just for fun. She is a nice bird, however, she is too small for my taste and I'm not 100% in like with her tail set, it's not squirrel, but it is high. Will try to get a good photo of her today while I am out and about. She is here so I might as well do some testing with her, right? Can't hurt nothing and my freezer has some empty space.![]()
Well if it is just a test.... I would try her brother too..... you might get something to work with. or is it just a bad idea? Thanks Vicki. sounds good. well...not the BYC not behaving part, but adding blue coppers for you. This should prove to be an interesting next year or two for my breeding programs. Especially with the birchens and coppers! Now to just find time to build pens and I'll be on a roll!Vicki~ BYC is starting to act up again on my end and won't let me respond via PM.. so you just say when and I am all over it.![]()
Donna~
I am going to set some of the eggs I am getting from her right now as she is still in with her brother as an experiment. Will be interesting to see what they throw together...for sure if there are faults they should be amplified...and come to surface....I would hope anyway. These were shipped eggs and remember this hatch of Birchens had 1 male chick with carnation comb pop up so if either is carrying it I would hope it would show. I'm not serious with them because of this.....but watch out...LOL...one day I will get good Birchen stock and then I will get serious with those and I will be making them blue.![]()
