Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Bill is doing great! He is Bill, still my very co-dependent boy. He is getting along with the geese just fine, if he stays just outside their reach. If he gets too close, they let him know about it, but they do not hurt him. They really are very gentle and friendly geese.
YES, the goslings are getting big. I will be building them a new brooder area this weekend as they have outgrown what they are using right now. They do not live with their parents....I am the parent....THANKS TO BILL. Bad Bill!

Last night as I was sitting with my soon to be new Mamma goat, Loosey, Bill waited for me outside the gates to the kidding stall....get this....whinning. I opened the gate and let him in and he stopped. He just wanted some attention. I picked him up and pet him for a few minutes and he was all good, wanted back out of the stall and went along his merry little way.

No goatie babies yet.

I suspect very very soon as I can barely feel her ligaments as of this morning and her tummy has dropped significantly. Babies are still moving around, but seem to not be as active as they were. Bag is getting more full by the day and I don't know if it can handle much more....poor thing. I feel like I should make her a sling of some sort to help haul those things around.
She'll drop those babies in the middle of the night, and when you go out to feed, there they will be! C'mon Loosey!!

Aye, aye Captain...beam me to Nebraska Mr. Scott!

haha too funny! Sure am hoping for a good show with good representation of some of the rarer breeds! Its funny when I'm contacting people and they are so excited about the fact that someone knows what the breed is and that I know people that raise them. Makes me happy!

White hackle feather update on Lil' Bill......as of now still no sign of a white feather coming back in where I plucked the other. Must have been an injury. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Update on that young Black Copper cockerel that shows no signs of copper.......stubs in between all toes. Though he is a nice looking bird....he is a goner.

I do have a young Blue Copper cockerel that I am growing out that is the same age as the boy mentioned above and is 2x the size of his hatch mates, same father, Lil' Bill, but different mother, he is almost all Bill, Sr. blood, hence the size. He is starting to get in his copper and the tone of it is looking good. He has good leg feathering and a nice comb too. Will get a photo of him very soon.

For crying out loud.......I can't get a nice Black Copper cockerel around here for anything. Blue and Splash...no problem. Black...forget about it.

Final verdict on the birds (the birds that also carried the carnation comb sh-tuff) that I had that came from Florida and whether or not it carried Wheaten........YEP sure did.
Here is a BCM cockerel from the only pullet that I still have that has that blood line in her.

Yup, she is getting closer. Does she have a dip right in front of the hip? Babies are rearranging for final step!

I've had my sheep so long, that birthing during the day is common!!

Yep, she sure does. Looks like she dropped massive weight but I know she didn't, that it is just the babies dropping. Thought I saw the slightest of dialation yesterday, but this morning is back to normal. She is a sweet little thing. Hope she has an easy time.

Vicki~ Those Splash boys that I have are looking good. One more so than the other but wouldn't you know it the one that has better type has an uneven serration in his comb. I am thinking I am not going to keep either one of them. Too many roos running around for onething and I am really liking the Blue Copper cockerel I spoke of in my earlier post. He looks to be the better choice even though he is 3 months younger than the Splash boys. Bill and Lil' Bill throw nice offspring....it's hard making cull decisions sometimes. Hatch out loads of babies to ultimately keep 1.

MEL~ Elwood's new owner got in touch with me this morning. I'm tossing eggs in 'bator for her on Monday morning or as soon as this Birchen hatch is over.
Thank you.

Thanks for saying something Kim! I remembered to buy batteries for my candler and forgot to candle the birchen eggs last night since I was so tired. I'll have to do that tonight!

I'd love to see the blue copper boy you are planning on keepin!
