Studing my Honey - Do list and trying to figure out what I can still get done tomorrow.
Do I work with my garden or do I work with my birds.... Decisions, Decisions....

I hear the decisions decisions part. Do you plan on doing winter hatching....since its not so cold down your way?
Last year, I REFUSED to do any winter hatching because I went a nasty round or two with fowl pox the year before.
This year, I would be setting eggs right NOW if I had eggs! However, ALMOST ALL my hens are molting right now.
I collected THREE eggs today out of around 30 hens. OMG... I am biting at the bit to set eggs and have NO EGGS to set

I bet! I've had a rough go of things as well with molting at odd times because of the strange weather. If I thought we'd have a mild winter here, I'd be tempted to do winter hatching, but the laying has been spotty here, well, between the molting and broodiness that is.

I was planning on bringing hatching eggs to sell to 4Hers and other BCM fanciers at our Fall Swap next weekend and now..... it's just not going to happen. I'll have a dozen IF I'm lucky!

I'm new to BYC and raising chickens. I got my first girls in August at about 6-8 weeks. I now have 13 (11 hens and 2 roos). The latest additions, 2 BCM's, one hen and one roo. I am learning as I go but already feel like my friends whisper behind my back, "Crazy Chicken Lady"!

Question for all. Is the white tail feather a gene thing or just something that happens. I have eggs in the incubator that was sired by a BCM with a white tail feather. I kept him through his first molt and thought they were gone, NOPE. I just sold him with some girls that had straw colored hackles. I wanting to know if I need to sell them as chicks or grow them out?
