Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Evening everyone! Hope all in the path of the blizzard coming stay safe. They are calling for at least 10" here, not sure what to expect really.

WOW 10 inches? I have not seen a snow of over 8 inches in years.... I don't think......

It was so pretty here today, but we are getting rain out of this front. We FINALLY got my back breeding pens COVERED with clear plastic.... I just hate the muddy runs and in the winter we get more rain than anything and it just can't dry between rains so enough was enough. Lets hope it will hold up through the winter at least. We are going to try to wrap the other pens runs to keep the wind down. My guineas will NOT go in a coop so plastic is a must this year.

We are waiting for the snow here- they are calling for 10 to 16 inches at least. So far it hasn't started by us yet. Alot of schools here are already cancelled for tomorrow, stay safe!

OH I almost forgot... My chicks from the roo that died are hatching

I think only 3 had not pipped when I left. I am going to tag the ones with white faces and feathered legs and maybe toenail color too....

I hear you on muddy runs. I so hate that part of winter and spring. Still working on building and shifting birds into new pens that are protected better. All a step at a time.
I'm hoping they have overestimated the snowfall, but when I was watching the weather online they classified the direct path I'm in as a "raging blizzard". About three hours west of me they have 50 mph winds with zero visibility. So, that's what's coming this way overnight. I'm planning for the real possibility we will get snowed in.

Makes me really glad that the barn is a straight shot out the back door and can follow the fence line out to the pens to the south in case the visibility is low when its time to do chores.
