Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

BTW My White Leghorns are not really flighty at all. They seem as calm as any chickens I have. They will let me pet them and I can pick them up pretty easy. Now my Marans.... I need a net.

I'd maybe add that finding Marans isn't too difficult, but finding good quality can be a challenge.
Thanks!

haha...the only reason I need a net for my Marans is to keep them at bay. They follow me everywhere! I love it. It always freaks out people when they come over, thinking they are going to attack. They just like being close.

Canada I believe might be more difficult. There are a couple from up your way that come by from time to time and would probably be able to give you a better idea of how hard they are to get a hold of

I think they are rare in Canada and apparently NONE existent of good quality. All I can say is groceries......

X 2 on this.... Right now, my marans are giving me the "what's up" speech every day. I won't let them free range because I am seeding the yard. Those girls will come all way to the back doors looking for good things to eat. They will eat as much grass seed as they can find along the way! My other breeds are content to hang put near the coops. They don't roam up to the house and mug me for treats...

I am going into lockdown tomorrow... Where is everyone?

Anyone else hatching this weekend?

More and More of my hens are coming back into lay. This was a long and rough molt for many of my hens. I've never seen so many walking pin chusions in my whole life! I still have one girl in full molt and others that have their feathers but aren't laying yet....
Finally getting eggs. Mostly from my old girls (who also had a very hard molt) nothing yet from the pullets! Will start collecting eggs after xmas and set for a late Jan hatch.
