Morning!  I will update tonight.  I have not made it out of the house yet.... I am not a farmer....

My calender says I have more going into lockdown, but they are not the right eggs.... I have to see what I have done.   Glad I write the day I set them on all the eggs. 

I posted this on the cuckoo thread but I got my first pullet egg from a cuckoo and it was a nice even color of a 5.  My hens lay spotted 4's so that is a huge improvement to get a nice darker eggs.  It was an even color all over like a Black Copper's eggs and SHINNY too.    I can't wait to see what color egg I get from these new little cuckoos.  My splash roo came from a nice colored egg.  He was an accidental cuckoo.

 

Congrats on the egg from your Cuckoo girl..that is exciting. I hope your others lay a darker egg for you too.

Remember I told you that I thought that one of my Birchen cockerels had a yellow tinge to his legs? Well I was wrong, I was powdering all of the birds yesterday and to my surprise when I picked him and gave him a once over I noticed his nice clean feet and legs and they are darker than the other cockerels and the undertone to his legs and feet is definitely pinkish with nice dark vermillion colored reticulate scales. He also has better shank feathering and he doesn't have white in the wing tip. YAY!

More and More of my hens are coming back into lay. This was a long and rough molt for many of my hens. I've never seen so many walking pin chusions in my whole life! I still have one girl in full molt and others that have their feathers but aren't laying yet....

We have a hatch on Saturday! Black Coppers and Dorkings....

Thank you, I feel like warmed over dog poop. I have the flu been in bed all day. I hope to get another pic of the blue roo soon. I have some of the babies I'm gonna keep for myself. I sold off about 50 chicks last week. So now it is a wait and see game as to what they turnout to be. VIVI

So the final count is 1 BLRW, 1 CCL, 4 Project Rocks, and 14 Marans only 1 was a splash and that was the last one that was stuck in the egg, but seems fine

More going into lockdown tomorrow. OH... only 2 had clean legs so that is improvement too. I will candle them tomorrow and see if there is any life... not sure I did that before lockdown

It was really blowing here today, how did you guys up north do? It was sleeting a little and SNOW while I was shopping. That was not in the forecast.....

The wind is unbelievable here. Lost a 4 ft diameter glass table top that was weighted. Smashed to pieces on my deck. I will be cleaning up those tiny pieces of glass for the next year…at least. To do list for tomorrow: Find Trampoline.

I am so bumming.... I only put 6 BCM eggs in the incubator and only 1 is going into lockdown . . . Whereas ALL the buff leghorn eggs candled perfectly

I'd rather have it the other way around. An incubator for of fertile marans eggs (super calm chicks) with a couple of leghorn eggs (hyper chicks) thrown in for good measure.
