Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

That stinks Lisa! I totally know how you feel, being so excited to see how the Marans eggs are coming along and then finding nothing. Hope you have a good hatch with the rest of your eggies tho! When do you think you'll put in your next batch of Marans eggs?

The wind is unbelievable here. Lost a 4 ft diameter glass table top that was weighted. Smashed to pieces on my deck. I will be cleaning up those tiny pieces of glass for the next year…at least. To do list for tomorrow: Find Trampoline.

Sorry about your table and I hope you find the trampoline..... but that was funny. I hope I can find my guinea..... they didn't want to go home last night.

Vicki~ The Birchen that I initially thought had a yellow tinge is the better bird...hands down. I was kinda bummed when I thought he had yellow legs.......now I am a smiling fool. I really didn't want to keep the lesser of the 2. I have photos of both of them for you and am trying to get them loaded.

They are SOOOOOOOOOOOOO tiny compared to my coppers.

Working on pics!

Blarney and Math Ace~ TOTAL BUMMER about your eggs. Hugz to both of you!

Donna~ Congrats on your hatch! Can't wait to see fuzzy butt photos!

Vivi~ I hope you get to feeling better very soon!

sounds good lady, I'll be watching for them!

I am toying with going ahead and setting some eggs where the Silver Marans are laying so well, and with how much work they will need, it will be nice to get a head start for next spring before I get going on hatching birchens and coppers. Still trying to decide. I might toss in some Columbian Wyandotte large fowl eggs too since I need to do some work on them this year as well.

Can you refresh my memory of the Silver Marans and what was used to make them?

sorry, ran to take a shower to warm up. The Silvers are a mutation out of the Cuckoos. Here's a pic of one of my pullets. Not a great shot, but gives you an idea

here's the first eggs out of them, they've gotten a nicer tone and richness to them since these. So, am thinking its a good start for a rare color
