Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

congrats! I do love when they come out fluffy! I have several chicks out of their shells now and many more pipped. I am looking forward to seeing what I have by tomorrow morning!
 





Sorry the pictures aren't the greatest but I tried. My camera is crappy it will only take 1 good picture out of 500!

So give it to me straight cockerels/pullets

I see two cockerels.... but it is harder at this age. The WHITER birds are roos.... the blacker ones are pullets. At hatch you can go by the size of the head spot.
 
Well, chicks are still hatchin like crazy, so should be interesting to see what I get by tonight. More than likely I won't be taking them out til Friday morning, so won't have tallies til then
 
Which "line" are your own Marans?


It is often said that a line becomes "yours" when a person has been breeding them for 5 years or more.
However, I am a firm believer that once a person takes possession of them and starts breeding them and making breeding and culling decisions that they are no longer the other breeders line for whom they were purchased from.
