ok I have my first ever batch, only a dozen, Maran eggs in the bator. I am hearing stories about hatching maran and am a little fearful. Is there anything I am missing? I assumed a chick egg was a chick egg.![]()
Just candled them tonight. Looks like 1 infertile eggs and possible 1 blood ring. The rest look pretty goodI've never hatched my Maran eggs any differently than I have all my other eggs. The only difference is that they are difficult to candle. Some people do not even try to candle them. But besides that, I really have not noticed any difference.
Correct me if I am wrong, I believe a "low station" is like a Dorking. A "medium Station" is like a Rhode Island Red and a "high station" is like a Langshan.
APA defines "Station" as, "A term applied to the ideal pose and symmetrical appearance, including height and reach in Modern Games.".
Best,

ordered a dozen on ebay of black copper marans, received 14 eggs (2 extras). put them on the incubator and they hatched 5 days ago. got 7 chicks out of the 14 eggs. hopefully i have a roo and some females......fingers crossed.....![]()
Ray, the term Station would also have something to do with the length of Shanks. We had a person on BYC that bred for the lower station Marans. I see nothing wrong with this as I myself like the higher station Marans. We have to use some of our likes and dislikes or what is the use just doing what someone else says is the correct way to do anything. As long as we get to where we want to be with them use whatever method you would like.
Anyone have any chicks hatching this weekend? I will be getting the incubator going again and hopefully get the eggs in by the beginning of next week, just waiting on the packages to arrive and to collect some more eggs out of my girls before then. Will shoot to get a few update shots of chicks today, that is if they will stay still long enough. They are still pretty quiet, but zip around so dang fast!
all I see is cockerels
so one is completely black the other has lots of copper around its head and down his back so the all black would be the best or line breeding?2 Cockerels.
they are far to young at the moment to tell about breeding, especially as they can continue coloring in for quite a whileso one is completely black the other has lots of copper around its head and down his back so the all black would be the best or line breeding?
