Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Most males are mature at about 18 months old.

Thanks! Mine is getting close to that, and I've noticed he seems to have gotten a bit bigger or something over the spring. He just seems to look more mature. Since he was a year in April I wondered if he was doing a final "fill out" or something.

I do practice Bio-security and don't allow visits. Tragically I don't keep extra roos..... I can try to keep one for you. What part of TN are you in? There is a Middle TN thread if you are in that are.

You NEED to change the avatar..... it is messing with my head...... I am visual and I just see the avatars and I am having to read things twice to figure out who is talking

Sorry about the avatar thing, LOL. I'm in southern Middle Tn. Thanks for the offer. I may be interested at some point in the future but for now, since he is my first, I'm gonna hang on to the rooster I have now. If by the end of the year he isn't shaping into the rooster I'd like; I will see if you would hang on to one for me.

Im relatively new to chickens, but I love my birds. I bought a dozen of BCM eggs on ebay and had 6 hatch. I have 1 roo and 5 hens. The eggs were that beautiful chocolate color but 2 of the pullets do not look like the others. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. The pics are not the best I will try and get some better ones, they are very fast little things and hard to snap a nice pic..:) Bruce, my roo
