Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

No I didn't mean chilling them. I meant using the Styrofoam container with the
chilled semen/live embryo  label and shipping the wrapped eggs inside. No one is
going to open it and they are semen after all. Or "live embryos" as the case may be.
Point is, they will get the same handling as  equine or canine "live embryos".
And access to true "overnight" delivery.
 Best,
 Karen

You mentioned FedEx had "climate controlled" shipping. How do you know they wouldn't assume it needed to be shipped frozen?

Hi all! I'm joining this thread because I'm expecting a one day old White Maran Chick from Meyer next Tuesday...

My neighbor works at a lab and I use those type of boxes all the time in cold weather. Most people will not pay extra for express shipping. It gets pretty pricing but might be worth it. If I was going to pay for express shipping I would go the extra mile and get chicks.

Since this is Maran's thread I have a question for those of you experienced with Maran's. Do you y'all feel they are a basically friendly bird? I know any bird can have a bad day and some breeds are not the best to have around young kids. Should be getting a pair of Blue Coppers next weekend :)

Thanks & Blessings

Many small breeders do not ship chicks.

I get chicks when possible.

No, many breeders don't ship chicks. Or some breeders charge a ridiculous amount for chicks. In those two cases, I'll order eggs.

If it's more than $15 per chick including the shipping, it's beginning to get too rich for me.
