Yes Ray,
It seems like some are missing toes completely but might have nails growing out the side. Most but not all are deformed on the outside toe... short.. shirt with no nail.. missing totally. ..
Even the Silkie I bought from them has an extra toe growing out the back.

The Silkie breed should have 5 toes, is that what yours has?

Hello forum,
With my past small experience, I haven't lost a chicken due to sickness after week 5, only preditors. I lost a lot to that.
Well today, I noticed a splash maran wasn't as active as the others. I picked her up and she seemed sick... tail and wings drooping.
I got her to drink some water from a syringe. Just a little on the tong and separated her. Well, she got more and more lathargic. Finally jersey and died.
Any ideas what might be wrong. Does anyone know if Arkansas has a place to see what killed her. She was probably the best looking one...

You'll have to contact the state veterinarian's office to find the closest place for a necropsy. You want to wrap the bird up in 2 bags and put in the refrigerator, do not freeze as that destroys tissues for the necropsy.

Chocks would look like black copper marans but would carry the recessive wheaten gene. It's very undesirable to have the wheaten hidden under the black copper. If these are for your own flock, I'd say go for it but if you plan to sell the chicks, I definitely wouldn't do it. I had to get rid of my first black coppers when I found out that they carried the wheaten gene.
