All the male wheaten pics I have seen have the white underfluff in their tails even on the Marans sites. Maybe it is cream or off-white but definitely not black.
If someone has one with black, I would like to see it.

another question please lol ,,,, whats the differance between under color and secondary color ? and why would thew moa try to confuse a carpenter ?

to me ,,,, i no the color gray lol but witish to me is dirty white lol lol another words witish = gray is what confused me to

Randy I believe the secondary color and undercolor are one and the same. The MCCUSA lists the male as Light Slate and very light in saddle and hackle, and the female as Whitish to cream color. Don

So my question, do Wheaton roos have white tail feathers? Like the BCM roos with white tail feathers (not underfluff) who supposedly have it due to Wheaton influence.

wheaten roos actual tail feathers should not be white.

Ok, are we talking about adult white feathers here, or juvenile, or both??

so which have any of you found harder to breed out, too much melanizer, or too little? I have had some of both. Tried breeding both. Disliked the outcome both times, but sometimes kept one or two otherwise exceptional breeders. Too little melanizers almost ALL the pullets were solid black. Too little melanizers and the pullets were mossy and sometimes had brown fluff on their butts. My flock has never thrown wheaten, but have had brown bums here and there. Thanks for any and all input, guesses, opinions and stories related to this aspect of Marans breeding.
