Have to say I was hatched about 20 miles southwest of Knoxville, Tennessee except for 2 brothers and 2 sisters all the other family left still live there.Lisa ~ That may be where he is from now, but I bleive he was raised in Alabama?? Somewhere down south, so he is an ole suthern boy!![]()
Quote: Sorry about your girl. I feel your pain in that and the eggs. I am going to pass on the NYDH. I might not even be setting eggs now if my roo had not died![]()
I have traces one like to like 1465 in Germany..... I think that was it![]()
Before I get the girls in that pen covered again, I am taking them out one by one to see who is laying those light colored eggs.... unless they have something else to bring to the table they may have to hit the road. I will do the same with the other pen since I am going to be combining them now and someone else is still laying a lighter egg.
shoot! I forgot the NYD hatch. I've said for the last two years that I'd do that, and that this year was gonna be my year....maybe if I can get some nice eggs from certain birds, I'll give it a shot....particularly the Silvers since I have so few. I've been getting eggs steadily from them now. Might also try with a few of the coppers.I have gotten as far back as Ireland on my dad's side and then ran into a dead end - told my kids that our family probably changed their name when they came over herewould like to get back into researching- just lack the time,![]()
Very interesting information as far as the Marans. On a sad note- when doing chores tonight my cuckoo pullet was dead- felt on the light side so not sure if she wasn't eating enough or something internal going on.
Hoping that we will be able to set for a NYD hatch- all depends on if the chickens start laying again- it has taken me 12 days to get just 12 eggs out of 20 girls.
Quote: That would just be too funny if we were related, my dad's family is from crossville and there are TONS of them, they breed like bunnies.... or chickens.
Thanks- she was one of my projects birds and not one of the kids birds for their 4-H projects. If we don't start getting eggs we will be behind in getting chicks hatch out for them this yearSorry about your girl. I feel your pain in that and the eggs. I am going to pass on the NYDH. Lights are on my to do list for tomorrow. They have finished molting and back to laying and I just want to keep it up for a little while. I am going to move some Wheaten Ams and Lav/Split Ams up where the lights are too since they don't seem to LIKE to lay in a timely manner. I really want to be DONE with my hatches by the first of the year. Then I can start hatching chicks to sell in the spring. I have to make as many pens sex linked because NASHVILLE is allowing only pullets/hens in town and Starting in Jan they will start issuing the calendar year long permits and this will be the first FULL year. I have a roo guy too so that helps a lot..
