Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Quote: Speaking of which.... I am taking pics as I get these eggs to get another set of eyes on these girls. Now that your life has calmed down maybe you can take a little look, both of you really. I really do have quite a few, I am a little worried that the roo is going to be overwhelmed.....

Here is that photo of Oxanna, I tried giving her the benefit of the doubt and grew her out. Look at how she holds her wings so high at the shoulder area and she is scrawny.
yeah, that's how my start with the birchens went....except they were much smaller in frame that her. I look forward to seeing what you did hold back

I can try to help lady. I'm still plenty busy, but should start slowing down here before long. Just gotta get past some of the stuff coming up and I'll be good.

She reminds me of a gangly awkward teenage cockerel that never finished filling out. She is not very feminine.
haha, sometimes they just don't come out of the awkwardness. I have used some of those in the past in other breeds when they carry something I needed with them, but if you don't have a need for something she has, then it is indeed good to move on.

She lays a pretty egg.................

Hey Girl! They are tons of fun aren't they?
How is your gang doing?

They are all doing well. Finally starting to see eggs from the marans. Actually I see one marans egg a day from all the ladies (slackers!!) I have several birds in molt right now..... poor girls. Picked the coldest time to do it! Nothing more sad then to see them half bald and shivering lol. As far as the littles from you- they are getting big! The two pullets are certainly some of my most favorite birds. Flaws and all they are beautiful to me and love their temperments! The black copper is showing mossiness on her wings, the blue pullet still has no copper but is stunning to me and Cowboy the blue copper roo still has to grow on me. My husband refuses to part with him lol. I just don't swoon over him like the others...... I guess compared to my "mutts" his attitude just stinks and his copper is not so copper. More orange/yellow. Not the stunning copper or reds like the other boys. He is going through a molt right now too so looks terribly scrawny and patchy. I am hopeful that either he changes my mind and I grow to love him- or my husband is willing to part with him. I really hate having 3 pens to take care of........ so we shall see what happens
