Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Thank you... really quite helpful. Unfortunately I prefer the look of the really lightly colored goldens... I saw some fantastic birds on that australian site but the coloring on the goldens was very disappointing for me. My goldens are also very small so I have a lot to work on... but the lighter coloring is what got me started with them so I don't see me changing direction. Hope the color on the US standard ends up more "golden"

X's 2 Just trying to learn as much as possible and too new to talk :frow My 5 month old pullet
Very nice looking pullet , looks to have good size also, welcome aboard.
Thank you Snowbird. Your welcome and comment is much appreciated. Her size is better than some I have. Now to see what color egg she lays. It's great having all this experience to draw on.. I've read the whole thread and a few more besides over the past year. So keep it coming.. My appreciation to you all. Back to lurk mode now.

Hey y'all, I just got my first chickens in November. My fbcm is my oldest, now 27 weeks. What is the average age for this breed to start laying?

Before you go trying to make your fortune on E-bay..... Your pullets/Hens have the wrong coloring. They should ONLY Have copper in there HACKLES and NONE on their front neck and chest. A little might be OK, but that is WAY too much copper and would never make it to my breeding pens. And they have lacing of the copper and coppers are not laced.
Thanks for finding something negative. Much appreciated!
If only I was as good as some.
Just don't buy any.
Have a nice weekend.

Question for anybody who is not chicken color genetic impaired, as I am. Can Black Copper Marans be used in any way, bred to another breed, to make sexlinked chicks? As a male over female of another breed, or female BCM with a male of another breed? I looked at the sexlinked thread but no Marans mentioned in the chart, but they are a new breed, so may have just been an omission.
