Cute chickies! Sorry I misread your original post and somehow was thinking that you were referring to the blue as being the throwback. Sometimes, I have moments.Here is a pick of her with the blue maran. I'm sure you can tell, but she is the one of the left. We have named her Snow, and the blue is Stormy. She had severe pasty butt today...just got done fixing her. Hopefully she gets and stays well (she is the only one that has/had it!)
I am going to say (without know the genetic background of the birds) the "throwback" chick is a Splash. Splash is also blue, but carries 2 copies of the blue gene which leaves it looking white compared to its blue sibling that only carries 1 copy of the blue gene. Splash birds can be produced from the matings of 2 blue birds together and or a blue bird to a splash. If this chick looks yellow and is not white-ish then I would say that it was a Wheaten. Some lines of Marans throw Wheatens. As the chick nears approx. 1 week to 10 days old, if it is a Wheaten you will be able to see sexable feather markings on the wings. If it is a Splash you should begin to see some random blue feathers coming in on the body. I doubt it is a Wheaten, my money is on it being a Splash. Post photos of them in a week or so and someone will be able to help you out more.

It's going to be another beautiful sunny day here today and yesterday I finished all of my fence and gate repairs, so hoping today will not bring any unexpected to-do's and that I get to spend the day in the garden.
Speaking of gardens.......did you by chance get your seed list done?
I have a question.........Will has suddenly developed 2 small white-ish feathers on his outer toe on one foot and 1 on the outer toe of the other foot. The feather is not completely white, only the tip of them, they remind me of the white wing primary that is slowly coloring into black. What does this mean and do you worry about a white feather on the shank or toe feathering?
I am going to bet that the light colored chick is going to be a Splash. Like others have already stated, Splashes will come from Blue to Blue breedings or Blue to Splash breedings. The Splashes are sometimes bred back with Blacks to produce Blues.
Kim, the eggs are doing great so far, I might start up another Sportsman tomorrow as I have the first full. Must be a disease involved. If any of the BC hatch will post picture on the profile as they grow up. I only plan on using one Wheaten hen and she has decided it might be too cold to try and lay an egg.Will is just a tad over 1 year old. I have a feeling that I don't want to hear what you are going to tell me about it.
Could you also send me a list of what you will be sending her so that we don't double up on what we send...unless of course she wants lots of extra seeds, which would be a good thing.
Morning Don!!!!!! I see you out there! How are the eggs going in the incubator?
I candled the yesterday morning and removed 2 clear eggs and the remaining 18 are doing super. Also removed 1 unfertile goose egg and the other 6 are doing great! Hope to be putting in 7 more goose eggs today.
