Mornin' George
How's the weather down your way? Its blowing and snowing pretty good at the moment. None of the birds are making the venture out of their buildings today and I don't blame them a bit!

Not too bad yet here in Northeast Kansas. Got some wind whippin' in from the north. Temps are beginning to drop and we're expecting some snow later this evening. My girls are out in their runs for now. Hehe I expect that to change later. I'll be glad when this who snow business is over. Sheesh.![]()
I assume your post was directed to me?![]()
Just a little food for thought. Where did the BTbuff come from all at once. Look at the shanks on these Marans males on my monitor they are white . Any one that has hatched some Wheaten and grew them out can tell you these have wheaten influence. I would want to believe the person that has been involved with wheaten rather than someone that has most likely ever seen one in person. Too many opinions on here that are just not true. The best policy is ask the people that have worked with any particular color that you are interested in working with in the future. Lot of posters just throw out what they have heard to be true and have no idea if it really works. It seems like any time a BCM with too much color is posted somebody always claims wheaton in the line. I didn't think that was it, especially after seeing some other pics of black tailed buff, which is why I post these. Nonetheless, they are first on the cull list as I am only working with black copper in the Marans. What I think is interesting is out of about 20 chicks starting out, from 3 different breeders, I had 4 chicks that never had any white feathers in their wings or tails. I tagged them because I thought that was interesting. The response I got on the BCM thread was they usually turn out to be mossy females. Well, these two orange boys are two of them, one is a mossy female and the other one is another roo, that might be just a tad too dark, tho he does have color on his neck, I don't see any on his back yet.
Sounds like we are on about the same timeline for hatching. I plan to get the incubator going next weekend. I started collecting last monday and will collect this week as well. I'm only collecting from certain pens as I've had to wait for some hens to clear from the roosters they were with. I still have a couple more groups of birds to rearrange, but just waiting for a bit of time to get it all done. I have 45 eggs ready to go in as of last night, so more than likely will have a full sportsman tray by next weekend from the few pens I am collecting from.I am collecting eggs now!![]()
I have about ten in the wine fridge now. I should be firing up the incubator maybe next week. I'm so looking forward to it! I love hatching eggs. My girls aren't cooperating much these last few weeks. I think the move to the breeder coop/pen was a bit too much stress for them.
Ha! I noticed the little box. It's a dead give-a-way for lurkers like myself. Thanks for the greeting.![]()
How's your hatching going or have you yet?
Hi Vicki, Will have some BC hatching 3-22 and several Welsummer shortly after that. I didn't raise any welsummer last year so going to hatch a few. I have around 50 BC eggs cooking at present, my bantams are all laying well at present, I have most of them in the brooder building in the breeder cages. Good thing I didn't tear out those pens.Morning Don! How's the eggs in the incubator doing? How much longer do they have now?
no kidding on those breeder cages! Its so much easier with the bantams to get breeder pens and have them be more compact than with the Large Fowl. What bantams do you have again? I think you mentioned cochin, rocks and maybe wyandottes, but can't remember if you said others too.Hi Vicki, Will have some BC hatching 3-22 and several Welsummer shortly after that. Greetings Don. I wish I could say the same, but I can't seem to build breeder pens fast enough! I'm working on a hen cage/coop with a nesting box today. I've got one hen that I need to match an egg with.Hi Vicki, Will have some BC hatching 3-22 and several Welsummer shortly after that. I didn't raise any welsummer last year so going to hatch a few.
