My guess is you have two pullets but even after raising BCM for 5 years they still surprise me!!! The first one is "mossy" in her colouring. With the assumption that she is a girl, they often lay really dark eggs but are not good for breeding (unless you are just raising dark egg layers for fun) or showing as the mossiness is not correct colouring as per the Standard of Perfection for BCM. Number two sure looks pullet to me but if you say the little tyke already has a few copper feathers coming in around the neck, that would indicate boy to me at this age.Hi all! I am new to the site and new to chicken keepingWe brought home nine chicks a week ago, two of whom are supposed to be Black Copper Marans. These two were two weeks old on Saturday. As they have feathered out more, we have noticed that their coloring is very different. Any thoughts on this? Do we have two different genders, types, or is this a normal variation? The chick in the first photo has lots of copper speckles on her feathers, earning it the name Turkey
Number two is strictly black and white with a few copper feathers coming in around the neck. Here are some pics:
Thanks!! I am so curious to see how they will turn out!
