Nope, just went to take it all in. Met my best friend down there ( only your best friend would be excited to spend the day at a chicken show with you) It is only a 3 hr drive, so I am hoping next year I will have something worth taking down.

I just picked up this rooster this past weekend.

This may be a odd question, but has anyone ever have a brownish tint come out in the feather of your BCMs? My hens use to be all black with the slight glimmer of green in the feather and then the coppering around the neck. But here lately Ive noticed 3 out of my 4 girls have a brownish tint coming out. Its not on just one feather. As in one feather have both brown and black on it, but it will be a few brown tint feathers and then a few black ones. I wish I had a real camera to show what Im talking about, cause my cell phone doesnt really show it that great.

I think I have a few more pictures, let me look for them.

are they due for a molt??? I see you live in Texas... sunbleached and tired??? That is normal if they are due for molt... the tired feathers will fall ou tan be replaced by nice shiney dark new ones...

They are. They are slowly starting to molt right now. One is in full molt right now. Poor girl looks so bad. But I dont remember the feathers being so brown before. Maybe I just never really noticed I guess. Thanks. I was starting to worry a little!

No... just like horses before the molt and during.. Tired hair and the new growth that comes in is fresh... They have lost their lifeblood to the animal and is preparing to separate and give way to new growth... Normal... so no worries... Ever seen a black horse after the summer in the sun... (brown horse now)

aren't you a "night-owl", Texas?

Ahh, well that makes sense. Like I was saying, they have molted before. I just dont remember it being so brown. Maybe Im just more up close and personal with them now then I was when I first got them. They free range now were as before they were in a cooped up pen.

Lol, yep. Always have been. Its 1:02 right now and I have to get up at 5. But Im not sleepy.

Havi... you will be sleepy later..

Ya more access to sun is probably the defining difference.... longer summer, time of molt... moral of the story... the birds are fine..

Nahh, I ran on 4 hours of sleep last night and looks like Ill be doing it again. The more sleep I get the worse I feel and Im super slugish. The less sleep I get the better I feel. Im strange like that.

Thanks Geebs.

I too really like the "flame" look on them, adds depth in my opinion.
