Sorry, I just breed for egg color, so I am of no help. They all look good to me!

geebs is good with critiques. She must have just overlooked it.

Hi OSU man. I think he has nice coloring. His leg feathering is also good. At first I thought his eyes looked dark but I looked harder and I am thinking they are orange? I can't tell from the angle of the way your roo is standing if his comb is correct or not. It looks okay from the angle he is at (not too many points etc) The only thing I see that might mark him off if you were showing him is that maybe his tail might be a little high. Then again is may just be how he is standing in the pic. He looks real proud of himself lol. It is so hard to judge just by one photo and I am certainly not an expert I hope some others can give a little more expert opinion.

I had a very sleepless night last night. Being the chicklets first night outside, in their new el-cheapo coop, all alone, in the dark, my mind was racing. Ok, no wind, no rain, was supposed to be 40*, they'll be fine, they'll be fine... My dog must've been picking up on my worry vibes, and was barking at every little noise, so that didn't help! Woke up every two hours and had to go look out the window. Finally got up at 6:45 to find a nice thick blanket of frost!!

Forty degrees my foot! Strolled outside, and it was very quiet. Let the big birds out first, then walked over to the chicklet coop holding my breath. Opened the door, and NO ONE CAME OUT! Bent down to look inside, and there were the babes, eating!

One by one they came out, looking at me like, "hey Mom, we're cool, nooo problem!" PHEW!!! Old Fuglee belted out the first crow of the morning, only to be answered by big "Roy", the largest of the chicklets! Roy has a much deeper crow than Fugs, so now the challenge was on! Being seperated from the main flock, I guess his confidence was not in question. Then the other two cockerels started in!

Poor Fuglee was beside himself with jealousy, and started stamping his feet and gathering his women to one side of the run. It was quite amusing AND quite a relief for tired old Mom..

Cpartist: I love that setup. I like the idea of having everything in one place. Something like that would probably work well where I live too. My coops are pretty open (they have large windows on all or at least 3 sides and lots of ventilation near the tops. Your dh did a nice job. Your chickens are gonna love it.

Mommommy: Congrats on your eggs. Best hatching wishes sent your way!!! Welcome to the dark side (Marans) LOL

Somebody STOP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!! Couldn't help myself and tossed these in the bator this morning. This photo makes them appear just a little darker than they are. These are all from Blue Coppers.
Geebs~ Charmin's eggs are the entire row on the far right.

Thanks, geebs. I also wonder if it snuck in on some partridge type pattern, perhaps it's a botched-up partridge or double-lacing from one of the other dark egg breeds? The two I have that show mossiness are also somewhat partridgey.

Thanks, Kathy. It probably would have due to the daytime (non-Marans)chat-shack that is this thread.

Love this. A few days ago I wanted to post a nice little picture of my chicken (on another breed thread) but it was obvious that the thread was truly geared towards breeding show quality birds and I felt uncomfortable with adding my obviously not show quality chicken of that breed.
Anyhow - thank you from a relative newbie and I'm excited to share a pic or two of our fluffy FBCMs when they hatch! :)
