I'm sure that some of you have already seen the clarification that Alecia Albury gave on MCCUSA group, on the judge's notes on the coop tags at the Newnan show.

This was what the judge said the abbreviation he used meant:

" CL - Color - some type of color issue - kind of light hackles, etc
LBS - Lobes - color in the ear lobes was an issue
S - size - too big or too small
LC - leg color
WC - wing color
EC - Eye color "

hope this clears up some of the questions that were asked the other day for those that didn't see her update.

Just candled a batch of shipped eggs set to hatch next thursday...out of 34 it looks like 28 are developing well. I'm stoked! I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that they'll continue to develop and hatch well. Now I just need to be patient...its oh, so very hard.

I also arranged to buy out the last of the cuckoo hens from the flock I got my chicks from. I'll head down to KS and pick them up in a couple weeks when I go down for a sale. I am very, very happy!

Thanks Math ace...

I held out as long as I could on checking them...but I just couldn't wait anymore. After reading and learning a lot on this forum about temps settings and humidity that others were using, this year is going waaaay better than last year. There really is truth in not opening the incubator at all once in lockdown.

I moved my leghorn hens in with my marans. Although everyone seems to be getting along okay, I soon learned that the leghorns won't stay in the pen unless I put some kind of netting over the top. I will do that, but just won't have time for a few weeks. With so many of the leghorns flying out I decided, What the heck! Open the gate and let them free range. We've got 3 great pyrenees to protect them, so that is what I did.

Went to work and hubby ended up trying to herd them back into the coop tonight. I guess the wind blew the gate shut, so they couldn't get back in at roosting time. He had a heck of a time trying to teach them where to go. I think they will have it down in a few days, but in the meantime I guess I better block that gate open when I let them out to range.

My fat-happy marans girls didn't bother to go out!
