Blue Marans? Big fluffy butted blues?
I have a couple of blues I've hatched out from my stock in a test hatch, just waiting now to see if they get any coppering or if they stay pure blue...on my first set of three pullets from my first hatch at Valentines day they are wonderfully laced, two of three are feather legged and are pure blue thus far...I'm keeping my fingers and eyes and legs and etc crossed that they will stay pure blue....I loves the blues.

Okay, here's a question to open another can of worms:
If Blue Wheaten and Wheaten are just one gene different, then why is the Wheaten hen wing color "wheat color" and the blue wheatens is "Outer web, medium shade of wheaten; inner web bluish wheaten stippled with brownish blue." on the proposed standard?

Wouldn't having brownish blue on wing primaries indicate there should be "brownish black" on standard wheaten hens? It seems that promoting that standard for blue wheatens would be to the detriment of any standard wheatens from the same line. How do you get brownish blue on primaries if your standard wheatens have wheat color wings?
Just asking.

I'll post this on the Wheaten thread too, see if anything is explained.

Like I said pictures did not do them justice for what he actually had In his breeding pens when I went out there this week. I can tell you the wheaton hens all had cream colored legs and feathered shanks and look very similar to ones I have seen posted on here. They showed good wheaton color on the tops and cream under and lighting up as they went down. So I know Im keeping some of then if chicks turn out any were close to what the parent stock looked like.

His blues were feathered shanks and had good contrast to there coloring and slate legs. Some were not like they should be so with have to pick and choose when they hatch. And the black coppers he has pictures of on the web I didn't see so if they look like what I saw I will keep some of them also. He really needs to update his site. But we will see what they look like when the hatch and start feathering out that will be the true test if I got what I saw or what he has pictured.

Still trying to figure this one out!! He's HUGE and I will get updated photos after this weekend (our national specialty and folks coming to see puppies after disinfecting

Since Mr. Sprig went to another flock (and his bumps pointed out to new owner, she didn't care, she wanted a nice roo that didn't attack and he is a real sweetheart), I've brought the three *blue* youngsters over, hadn't seen them since I picked them up about a month ago.

I agree with you Village Chicken...they do look like Cuckoos and not Silver Salmons. I did notice on the header of that page it said Silver Solomons...that kind of confused me

Never heard of that before

yay! so exciting! Been shipping out lots of hatching eggs? My girls have been rather temperamental with the laying since the weather can't make up its mind. I really think they are sick of the cold too.

How old are those boys? Are they blue copper or just blue?
They actually look like they might be gold birchens - blue copper x silver birchen, (at least the non-spangled guys) their hackle feathering looks lighter than blue copper.
Did you see the parent stock?
