Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Thanks for posting all of those pics again! I'm having brain fog this morning

. Can't have a tude with the Gnarles, no wonder he went! He was a nice looking boy, but I don't see the same Bircheny "look" in him as I see in Bill's boy. Love the lacing on the breast of Bill's boy! Bet you get something interesting with him and Baby Blue! You may have to throw one of those eggies in there too??

My Baby Blue

She is just over 5 mos. old now and snooping snooping snooping in the nest boxes...but she ain't done nothing yet! Now she's all miffy with me because she was moved out of Gnarles' pen in with the Splash boy. She is a product of Gnarles' cross Bill's big blue clean shanked girl. Notice how Bill just seems to carry through to every bird that has his blood in it?

Edited to add: I found that upon transporting Ms. Baby Blue from pen to pen yesterday....she is quite the hefty chunk! She is bigger than my almost 2 year old Splash Copper Davis hen.

Yes the Bill baby is a boy. Love the fuzzy legs.

The interesting color on the pullet? I'm not getting the interesting color? Was she the one that was very light upon hatch? Perhaps another chick with Bill blood in it....perhaps one of those ??? x Gnarles eggs that I couldn't tell who laid it?

Thanks Sue and Debbi! I really like her! I had hopes to see some copper in her hackles but I'm not too overly concerned if she doesn't show it at all. Most of all I'm excited that she is feather legged and has good type. Now the wait for the egg color!

If I didn't know any better....on second thought it's possible that I don't know better

, but the longer I look at my Splash Rooster that I posted a photo of the other day......the more a little voice in my head keeps whispering Birchen-Birchen-Birchen because of his odd coloring. Never had a splash bird color out like this guy...never. I thought for sure that someone looking through this thread would have caught it and said "Uh-ummm Kim???.....Notice anything unusual about your boy there?" but no one ever did. Guess I'll just have to do some test mating with all of Bill's blue daughters and see what he throws.
