he's a nice looking dog! That's awesome that you have a good boy like him there to keep you safe. Sounds like some serious bloodlines you'd want behind a guard dog indeed!

I keep daydreaming about just having my own place much further away from people than here.

yay! That's so exciting Debbi! If she takes the ones you guys spoke about, how many will that leave you to still need to thin out?

Depends on if she takes some hens. I've got three hens, two pullets, two little cockerels, and 3 older cockerels to go yet. Blue Butt, Bump, and maybe Pip are going to freezer camp. That will leave me two pullets, and either 2 or 3 roos. Plus the 14 Silkies, but they don't count much as chickens in my eyes!

wow...that is really good! You will be miles and miles ahead of me on the thinning down front. I don't even want to think about what it would be like if I didn't thin down any more before winter. No thanks! I will get there tho...
I did catch up a couple of my younger chicks this morn...and a couple of the girls are butterballs. I love it! And the bonus...they are blues!!

Yes, he is a good boy with those he knows. He's getting on in years at 9 1/2, but you'd never know it. He has the energy of a Jack Russell Terrier! Extremely high prey drive, and lots of energy. 100lbs. of sheer muscle, and fast as a cheetah. We were training in Schutzhund when my arthritis got the better of me, and my hip and knees went out. He was so-so in obedience, excellent in tracking, but his best point was the protection work. He now serves as my constant companion and service dog, self trained. He helps me with herding the chickens in at night, pulling weeds, picks things up for me, and will fetch anything. I do feel safe with him here, and he is such a great help to me.

My problem now is, I am getting the serious hatching bug nipping at me again! I still want some Splash eggs!!! If I can hatch by November, I will be good to go by May...to start all over again!

agreed..you definitely need the blues!

Who are these show secretaries, anyway??? The one that irked me the most was the cage signs at the Newnan show, Maran.

Are you kidding me?? You can bet if I ever get to a show or two, I will have my Sharpie, skillfully concealed on my person...heheheheheheeeee

ETA: ~ In defense of the show secretary at the Newnan show, they may have actually gotten the wrong idea from the pronounciation of Marans. When pronounced correctly, the S is silent. But MORANS??
