Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Funny you should ask because I am working on making some photos smaller so that I can upload them. I have 2 cockerels and would like everyones opinions on. Looking for hard core evaluations of them, I need to be able to justify feeding them and if they aren't worth it, they too are gone. Then I would be down to 41.

I'm curious to see where these 2 boys are going to go, but curiousity has almost worn out its welcome and curiousity isn't enough to justify keeping them. I have watched them thus far and so far I am not in big likes with them. Not feeling 'em.

super! what are the other boys you are definitely going to keep? like breeds, colors etc...

Okay...please give me honest critiques about this bird. He needs to give me a very good reason to stick around any longer.

Blue Copper cockerel almost 6 mos. old.
Very dark and is starting to show some copper in the wing bow and the saddles. Long/er back. Is related to Bill, but has much more Davis blood in him then he does Bill.

He looks wide in the chest and seems to be pretty full, too. He looks like he'll mature into a nice sized bird.

If he were mine I would want to see more color on him already though.

Thanks Jeremy.

Yah, I kinda would have liked to have seen more copper on him by now too. Just recently I spied a couple copper feathers in the wing bow and the saddles.

Hello amazing Marans lovers.
I am in Golden, CO and went on my first Backyard Chicken Coop Tour.
I bit the chicken bug this year and am loving every minute of it.
I began to fall in love with the Marans (Wheaten Marans specifically) about a month ago. The dark eggs are amazing!
I am pretty sure it's too late in the season to find any chicks/pullets/roos; if anyone hears of any of these or are culling any 'non-prize birds' in Colorado/Wyoming, I'd love to meet up!
I respect all of you who do shows, that's more than I can handle now...maybe in the future.
Right now, just looking for Wheaten Marans to add to my backyard flock and enjoy those eggs!
