I didn't even get one egg today!
Guess the 2 new layers took a day off, and the hens still haven't started again. Don't know what Charlotte and Olivia's problem is, no eggs from them in quite awhile. They are getting near the adult molt stage, so that may be it?
Clyde and Roy got together today as I was taking the wheelbarrow out the gate of the run!
It's so sad to see them hate each other so much, they were such good buds for so long. Luckily, they are easy to seperate with a leaf rake, so Clyde got to go out today. He was mad as hell! How dare I let that brother of his in with HIS girls!?? He did not enjoy his day outside at all, and paced the fenceline all day, muttering rather rude remarks to Roy the whole time!
When I called them up tonight, Clyde came running to the gate. Roy was already on the roost in the far back corner, so instead of taking a turn in the small pen, Clyde went in. He is so sweet, he just let's me pick him up and take him to the night pen. Then I noticed something new on Pip today. He is starting to get some faint, red spots on his breast?? Not a lot, but enough to notice. He has all of a sudden started to bloom. He has gotten much broader and beefier all over. Could it be he's finally getting some testosterone in there??
He has never bred a hen yet, at almost a year old. Lately, he has been doing the wing dance to intimidate the younger roos, so maybe there is hope for him? There has always been something about him that appealed to me, despite his coloring and tude. May just have to breed him once or twice, if he will. I will put him in with, hmmmm, Charlotte maybe and see what we can see. At least he doesn't have any DQs...that show anyway!
