Rancher there isn't such an animal aparently or maybe I just didn't hold on to the bad ones long enough for them to be GOOD husbands HAHA!

Yeah it's a good thing women think that or some men would never get married. A woman thinks of three things when she gets married. The Aisle, the Alter and Him. I'll , alter him.

Vicki, are any of your birchens over melanized on thier face or combs? I was looking at my silver blk birchen girl today who has the mossy feather issues and she is a little dark in the face and on her comb. Wierd.

honestly...its really hard to know..I would say its probably a few different things...one...yeah, i think some people have mixed in other breeds for a shortcut...that causes problems in more ways that I can count. The other thing that comes to mind is the process of developing the color whether it be from cuckoos/bcms...is not a one step process to get the color to come out well...i would suspect that more effort was put into the refinement of the color and the egg color suffered for it. I'm sure there are quite a few more reasons, but just the two that immediately popped in my mind

Most guys I've dated have changes after like two years and I'm not talking about the end of the honeymoon stage. They seem to get lazy! Don't want to help you do anything. In the past aparently I choose "submissive" men. Or maybe I'm over barring when it comes to working/ doing my chorse. I am pretty perticular.

i think out of all of the birchens I have which is hovering right at 50 i had one girl that was overmelanized in the face pretty good, but was reddening up pretty good and couldn't really see it anymore...i say was, because that's one of the birds that dang possum killed.

haha...are you sure we aren't long lost sisters or something? I am a workhorse compared to most people I know and have ways I like things done...for good reason. I always get told by people that I make them feel bad for the way I live my life because I make them look lazy. I say its a load of hogwash...just suck it up and do what needs to be done...and do it right the first time and you'll have more time for goofing off and having fun.

I think y'all are long lost twins lol. Geez it sounds like redheads have more fun

Maybe I should dye my blonde to red. I've always liked that dark strawberry blonde maybe like that Jessica chick in True Blood LOL!! That wouldn't be too drastic haha!

Yeah you're probably right its the cuckoos fault haha. Most do have horrid egg color. I want to breed some with really good egg color. I got really lucky on the egg color in most my birds but then you have to figure out how to make them look decent and still have that color. I think its prob easier to go the other way!

I know that Green Fire has worked with Bev Davis in the past to procure stock for them to sell. I also do know however that they don't exclusively work with only her line. Was it blue birchens you said you were getting or silver birchens (black)? I can't remember at the moment.

I didn't know there was a difference. I 'd never heard of either until I saw them on GF. These appear to be black. I don't have any other marans. I did have some Cuckoos but they're gone now. I've never seen the blue.

Id be ticked I always wanted a sister, but I always said that its probably a good thing one of us would have died! I dont usually get along with the girls my own age to much nonsense. Im the girl that will start a manure fight. but the older i get the easier it gets to tell fake girls from real girls.
Haha thats how my last relationship was until I caught him lying about feeding my animals. I dont get it whats the point in walking out to the pole barn and just sitting there? then coming in saying you fed the Animals. I had the key to the feed lol (this was when I was managing the boarding facility. so there was like 20 indoor horses and watering and watering the outside horses. Lying gets you know where and If your not going to actually do the work then let me do it... no biggy. oh i was ticked. people paying good money to feed/care for their animals and he wasnt doing it.

haha...I know I have lots of fun, but then again...i'm pretty ornery! and I wouldn't change it for anything. I looooove pranks!

I have one cuckoo hen I can't figure out who it is because when I bought them they were just going into molt...then had to wait for them to all cycle through before I got eggs out of all of them at the same time, that lays a nice egg. They are in molt again
th.gif
So I'm waiting...again...but when they start laying, I'm gonna individually pen each of the 5 and see what color each lays. My goal is to thin down to 3 hens and add in a few of the girls from this years hatch and begin some serious work on the improving egg color.
I think for a lot of people working on egg color is a challenge and a half, then you add all the work on the bird itself like the body type and color and etc...and I could see why egg color is what suffers...its the part you don't first see...and I think not necessarily on the top of the priority list for a lot of people.
